What are the best plugins? Is there a site to learn about them, what people think about them and how they compare to competitors? Also what different effects plugins do you need to make a really complete system?

THanks

Yeah, i'd say waves too ! Waves Gold bundle or Renn.
Although I use SF plugs too.
And Izoptope Ozone is a nice plug as well.

Waves 90% of the time
Branspawn Spec Analyzer (8%)
Autotune 2% of the time

I have Ultrafunk (good product with very usable plug-ins and use to be very inexpensive), and DSP-FX (good product... especially the reverbs) as well.

oh, and I also have RBC Voice Tweaker its an Autotune like program that I use more for weird sounding effects on vocals and mono instruments than for serious processing. this is an older version.

PSP Vintage Warmer(one of my personal faves)
ina matter of fact all the PSP plug-ins are good to have the stereo pack as well as the lexicon delay...very reasonably priced

Timeworks Compressor X
Timeworks EQ/Spectrume analyzer

The Waves renaissance and mastering stuff

free VST plugs

digital fish phone do a seach and you'll find it

great stuff for free competes with the ones that cost hundreds of dollars

AKAI
WAVES
Timeworks
Lexicon
Antares
DSP/FX
Eeeeh.....
I know more but I'm behind a different PC now.
But these above I often use
:D

I would not buy Waves without reading this

There was a big thread on rec.audio.pro about this issue.

Ultrafunk is a good alternative. Its affordable and doesnt use intrusive copy protection. I have tried their compressor and its user interface (and sound) is great. The reverb has a useful stereo width control and doesnt use too much CPU power.

You can read about it here.

If I had to pick one single plug and thats all I could have, it would be Vintage Warmer... by far the best most useful plug ever.

I find that for overheads... it rocks.. for kick... rocks... snare, same...

and for a D.I. bass track, it brings it to life, makes it fat... just use the preset and you are all but done.
I love it. My problem is wanting to use it on every track. It does build up too much though, so you gotta pick the best places.

My other favs are CompressorX, Waves RenEQ, and Sonic TImeworks Mastering Compressor.

version smersion...PSP vintage warmer is the best bang for your buck hands down...i found it to be extremely versatile

Crimson I'ld love to check out that site but the links not working for me.

Those of you using the newer versions of Waves - did they get rid of the copy protection?

I've always heard good things about their plugins, but I absolutley refuse to buy or install any software with software-based copy protection. I'd like to know if it is safe to buy.
