What are some good mixers to route about 8-12 pre amped mics to 1/4" out through

So I was thinking about lap top recording. If I had a laptop and a external sound card (for example RMS mutiface) which has 8 line inputes and I think 2 other inputes via spdif. I would need a mixer to pre amp all the mics for my recordings, Perferably a with good pre amps (not that I know what good are, but I've heard the term before). Really I don't even know why external cards don't come with all Mic inputs, because isn't practicly everything you record mic'ed? You mic vocals, drums, and the guitar amps usually don't you? At least I thought the pros did.

Anyways point me in the right direction, I don't know about price range. Give me a couple. Thanks

I was reading that title and I'm sure you already know but I need the mixer to Amp the mics Not just run them through. It as to have 8-12 mic inputs each with there own 1/4" output. Also maybe a spdif out.

Crest XR-20, if you want a step up from the usual range of suspects. Hard to say what's best since you didn't give us a price limit.

I guess I was thinking maybe around a $1,000 bucks but it doesn't need to be that much. If that wouldn't really get me anywhere I would consider a little more. I really don't know what prices will get me what so I'm a little in the dark about the whole thing.

The M12 is about 7-800 bucks I think. The preamps in the soundcraft mixers are good and they have a good eq section for each channel. I get a very good sound with my old soundcraft powered mixer and I know the preamps in the M series are better than the ones I have. If mine goes kaput I will probably get one of 'em.
