Hey all,

I've written a song called "Angels fall", I've got the melody, the structure, but I'm trying hard to relate the chorus I have to a subject. Here's the chorus:

They will fall like a stone
And their cries will darken the sky
All will see their plight
The end of might
When Angels fall
To the ground
The weak shall inherit the Earth
They will just fade away
No other day
When Angels fall

This kind of came to me in a dream.
What picture does this paint in your mind? What could I be talking about? I'd love to hear your ideas. It's not the lyrics that I need, just the subject I should relate to, actually.....
The song is a pretty bombastic power metal thing in a 3/4 rythm, kind of Iron Maiden meets Dragonforce or something.
Thanx to anyone who can help. :)

The two most powerful lines seem to be
- When Angels Fall
- The weak will inherit the earth
Sounds like Armageddon or the apocalypse or the day of reckoning....

Joe-ster,

It's quite apparent to me that you are talking about the hypocritical religious right.

This fundamentalist assholes who point their finger at anyone who doesn't go banging on doors telling other people what to do.

Upon judgment day, they will be the first to go. Televangelists who will take the last dollar from poor people who can't afford it and build monuments to their egos.

When it comes time for The Ascension," (A famous painting on the wall of the Sistine Chapel in Rome) they will be in the "big book" not the "little one."

The bible tells us not to judge others because that's God's job.

Judge them he will; that's what your chorus is all about.

BTW I wrote "Get There" in a dream as well.

Wig:)

I write a lot of stuff like this. Armageddon, judgement day, post apocalyptic sci-fi stuff. I dig it.

There are a lot of angles to this.

When angels fall............

Are they really angels or are they hypocrites that hold themselves up as angels?
Will we be happy or sad to see them fall. Are they getting what they deserve?
Who caused this? Any demons involved? What happens when they hit the ground?
Are they dead or did they just become mortal? Is this some type of a spiritual battle or just the day of reckoning?

To me it comes off as a song about judgment day or a massive battle between angles and demons where the demons win and the earth is doomed. Either way pretty kick ass subject matter.

The infamous Four Horsemen come to my mind. Not sure why i just think of them causing these Angels to fall from grace.

I think theyd be good at that.

Great stuff guys, you've really got me going now!

Wig- that is a great interpretation. I grew up in a very religious environment which made me turn against organised religion. I hated the hypocrisy of it all. Yes, definitely a great theme!

Yonce- yes, I see them as hypocrites. Those are some great questions you're asking there, real eye-openers. I definitely see it as a spiritual battle now, not just Christianity but all religions.

Gerry- that line can be full of meaning and you're right in pinpointing it.

Atom- a fall from grace of those who think they are untouchable and holier than thou... a great theme.

Thanx guys, you're really helping me along with this!
Hope to have the song ready in a couple of weeks so I can post it in the clinic.
:):):):)

Who are 'they'? Are they the angels or the weak?

That sounds very familiar. Any chance you started listening to Iron Maiden because the album covers scared the shit out of your parents? Yeah me too.:D

I thought of a few things that might inspire you.

When I think of angels a few things come to mind immediately. One is halos. Lots of imagery you can evoke by using that word. You may be able to get the point across that these aren't real angles but hypocrites by describing their halos as false, faux, pseudo, self appointed or something similar.

The other is wings. Again you can describe these as being false and self made. That thought lead me to the legend of Icarus. Wings made of wax and feathers flew to close to the sun and melted his wings.
Lots of ways to describe this. Waxen wings. Wings fail from the heat of the sun. A smoldering pile of wax, feathers and bones. Wings made of wax, feathers and lies. Like Icarus doomed as they blaze through the sky..........
You get the point.

Hope that inspires you a bit. I couldn't help but riff on this one. The subject matter is right up my alley.

I always enjoy your tracks and can't wait to hear where this goes.

I won't be in the least bit offended if you don't us any of my ideas BTW. I just enjoy the songwriting/brainstorming process.

Good luck dude!

Hey Yonce, thanx for all the interest you're showing in this! Those are some awesome ideas you're giving me and don't worry, I'm definitely gonna use them, particularly the part with the wings. Ha, ha, yeah the Maiden covers and not only that. They kind of lost me completely around 1976 when they saw me with leather jackets, torn jeans, chains with upside-down crosses and Black Sabbath.:D

the Angels

they will fade away and the weak shall inherit the Earth

:)

Well when you get right down to and really think about, like really overthink it, and i didnt really think of this until last night. ... (Yes your lyrics were so profound i was thinking about it on the drive home...so dont take this next bit in a negative manner)

Really overthinking that one line about the weak inheriting the earth.. Where the angels fall? I dont think the weak would inherit the earth?

IF the angels hold the power over judgement and reason and the majority of the world beleives in these things (angels) because they are weak and weak minded enough to follow the teachings of any established religion...(our opinion anyways)

The weak already have control of the earth. yea?

Conservative governemts with postions of power with outwardly religous motivations, popes dicatating to hordes of people....etc etc..

The weak, in a manner of speaking, already have a majority rule over principles, social moral postions over the general population of the earth?

If the angels fell, i thikn perhaps all hell would break loose and it would be the survival of the fittest, again, going back to the armegeddon, apocalypse doomsday imagery comes to mind. Angels falling would casue the weak who "need" them to become weaker.

Im sorry, I am really overthinking this one line?. Poetically speaking i still think it sounds awesome and speaks volumes. But i just have a habit of analysing some stuff to death. My bad.

But hey man, its been a while since i read something that got me thinking so you got turbo brownie points.

Maybe when people stop looking for some higher power to solve all their problems. When they start relying on each other or the stength of their own spirit and not some disjointed entity the Angels will fall and the brotherhood of man will rise

Very good and very interesting reasoning Atom. But perhaps once the chain is broken, the dark clouds will clear and the weak will realise, they didn't need the angels after all. That would be my hope.
But you're right, that line is like a key to big mysterious door. :)

Nice thoughts, thanx man! Very inspiring, I'm really enjoying reading all your thoughts. It's like someone gave you a brush and you're all painting your own picture but all the pictures fit together. I'm really impressed! :)

Ah Joey,
You're doing so well with this that I was tempted to play at being one of the four poxmen of the horslips: I succumed....

Like the wings of Icarus

Angels dark and light

rose on high victorious

then tumbled into night

sealing wax and stolen fletch

can't construct a faith on lies

hubris in the sun's embrace

now death's pain the angel cries

& then the denoument:

A weak man finds a feather lost

And gazes to the skies

Thinks of what the flight had cost

But he is man, he tries....

Absolutely awesome, Ray! :)
Love it, gonna use it and I'll credit you!

Feel free Joey, you're most welcome.
Now, someone stole m 'orse. How can I ride beside Pestilence, Famine & Drought without me 'orse.
I mean it's not everything but a horse is a horse, is a horse of course...

......on the other hand think of how much you'll save on hay, accomodation and care! Not to mention that perfume emanating out of a horse's ass.....:D
