hi i've recorded a drum track and i wanted some info on how it sounds and what i can do to make it better, i'm using cubase sx 1.0

thank you.

You'd have to put it behind a specific song to know if it's what you want or not. Listening solo'd is not the way to rate it. On it's face it seems OK. I'd say the kick needs to come up. In a mix it would probably dissapear. Cymbals are a little harsh for my taste too.

you sure that's a kick or did someone fire off a machine gun while you were recording? :D

it's hard to tell how drums are gonna sit in a mix without the other stuff along with it.

kick needs more low end (and maybe volume)--not added eq, but better source-to-mic-to-input combo. i'd bring the bass response up, and then check the volume in the mix. could be all it's missing is low freq, but even after that it may need turned up a bit. i think you got a tad overzealous in the pursuit of eliminating every ounce of mud. sounds pretty effing tight though. you've recorded something worth being proud of, and worth getting better at. i'd like to hear it with the kick sound rectified, within a mix of some tight guitar music. onward and upward!

Too much room or reverb, just not good there. The kick needs way more balls. Also the cymbals are very harsh, if you're boosting eq stop, try cutting it instead and get rid of some of the ear piercing sound. How are you micing the kit, and what kind of mics are you using? It sounds like you're on your way but it still needs a lot of work, practice mixing the drums within an entire mix, it becomes very different than mixing just the drums alone.
