what aboute this card?

Ok, like I wrote earlier I will buy a soundcard soon. I am a drummer with 7-8 drummics that i want to record on separate drumtracks. So someone said Presonus Firepod would be good because I would need 8 pre amps. But I saw this card M-Audio FireWire 1814. Will this work? My miccabels are XLR but on this card there are 2 preamps and 8 trs (jack??????????) inputs... Can I just use these inputs or do I need 8 preamps? And if I need 8 preamps why is that so?

preamps boost the signal from a mic level to a line level signal, and add gain.

I would think you WOULD need them...

I think the firepod would work fine...I know folks who use them without preamps...
