What about frequency?

Hi all,

Just recorded my first song on my computer.
Sounds good but I have a question. Since I'm new
to recording I never had this question.
When I was adding tracks to the song some parts in the
lead vocal were almost nullified or canceled out.
I think this was caused by two tracks being on the same
frequency at certain spots in the song. I'm not sure about
the whole frequency thing and how to avoid problems like the one above. Could someone explain or point me to a FAQ for more information? Thanks.

Are you recording mono? Panning your channels to give it more of a spatial effect can help that. When you pile two identical sources on top of eachother they tend to cancel eachother, especially if one has its phase reversed. (experts, correct me if I'm wrong)
