What 2" to buy?

Heading into the studio with my band in a couple of weeks and want to make use of their Otari MTR 90 MK2 tape machine for drums and bass tracking.

The studio offers new reels of 2 Ampex 499 for £140.

I see studiospares.com does new reels of RMGI SM911 2 inch tape for £98.

Will the RMGI work with the Otari tape machine and is it as good as the Ampex tape?

I think the RMG911 is +6 tape, where the 499 is +9. The machine would probably need to be re-calibrated for the 911.

The RMG900 is their +9 tape and is probably close to bias compatible with the 499.

The RMG should work fine in their machine, but RMG tape sometimes has problems with guides/heads/lifters that are worn from use with ampex/quantegy products.

Best to check with the studio first.

Think we may opt for the Ampex 499.

What if our sessions are likely to be spread over 3 or 4 different studios, will we be able to conitune work on our multi-track tape recordings on a different machine or will we hit major compatibility issues?
