I have been reading a fair bit on the wharfedale 8.2s, and have decided i am going to buy a pair, but just now i see that there is also some wharfedale 8.1s, for nearly $100 cheaper. Could someone tell me what is the difference between these two monitors?

So for mixing hip hop songs would i be better off getting the 8.1s or 8.2s? Bass will be an important thing...

You have got no chance whatsoever with hip hop on the 8.1's, would really suggest you don't buy them. It will be touch and go on the 8.2's. You really need a sub with that kind of music, or you'll take your mix to a full range system and be drowned in bass.

I have the 8.2a's and they really are great little nearfields but a tip I can't stress enough is... go into your local music store and LISTEN TO THEM for yourself. A/B them with everything else in your price range. Take a selection of commercial CDs you know inside out and let your ears be the judge. We all hear things differently.

but i dont think theres many music stores around here that will let me do that... and lemontree, you say you own the 8.2s, do you think they have good enough bass for hip hop or would i be better off going for some BX8's?

I had them up against the BX8s, some Truths (terrible), tannoys, and the yammys.

I'll take the behringer truths right out the equation before I start. The tannoy reveals had a good midrange balance, the Yams were very crisp and the BX8's I thought (to my ears) were the most hyped of all. The wharfedales were the most neutral sounding to my ears and my choice to buy that day.

Personaly I think if I mixed on BX8's, when my mixes translated to other systems they would sound a bit enemic on the bass side as they were so hyped to my ears. Your ears may differ and that's why I stress to go listen for yourself. Good luck with your selection

Alec

would it be a bad idea to go with some BX8's and a sub?
