I'm not having much success finding a decent Tascam MSR-16 . . Is there a trick to using search-engines successfully? . .

If you have any links, connections, hints, clues, suggestions, I would greatly appreciate your help. . .

As I understand it those are fairly rare anyway. A Fostex E16 or G16 might be easier to get hold of, but parts availability might be an issue. That said, I've heard the MSR16 heads are hard to find too.

Are you having any luck finding "indecent" MSR-16's? I actually see these come up rather often on the usual sites. AFAIK Teac still has NOS heads.

I can't find one in any state of moral, ethical, or physical condition. . . I've searched using "vintage", "used", "analog", etc. . . doesn't seem to be anything out there right now I guess. . .

i see them on craigslist fairly often.
Where are you located?
I would buy local, if at all possible.
(see packing sticky at the top of this section)

I just search "Tascam 16" and sift or "Tascam 16 reel" or even "Tascam" and sift if I have some time to sift more.

Currently for sale in the USA:

Chicago:

TASCAM MSR-16 16 TRACK REEL TO REEL TAPE MACHINE

NYC

2-Tascam MSR16's with remote and tape

Chico, CA

Tascam MSR16

Are you located in N. America?

If you opt for shipping, budget about US$150 for that and coordinate closely with the seller. I've shipped one of these up the west coast, using a U-Haul 27" TV box, some rigid insulation from Home Depot, and a crazy amount of bubble wrap and styrofoam peanuts. It cost a lot, but came in one piece.

Thanks ! I think I found the NYC one about when you did. . . Though I should have been wiser and not asked for direct links. . . I'm only making it harder for myself to get one . . .

Again no clue as to where you are located, so I am guessing the USA somewhere.

This just went off on the Oz ebay, I was trying to give the link earlier but the site was down, I was suppressed at the high price but it did have the Midiizer with it and it was an S which were quite a bit more when new. I own 2 x MSR 16S machines with remotes.

Alan.

Still don't know OP's geographic reference point, but OP key'd in on the NYC machine I listed above. BTW, I did a quick search of CL in Germany and the UK, but came up empty.

Thanks Guys ! . . . I'm in central Pennsylvania, USA . .

The NYC seller hasn't replied to my email. .

Um. . . What is visqueen ? . . .

I have no idea what visqueen is. I'm not sure what to make of an ad like that with no info other then it's for sale and a price. And teh MSR16 is it from the whole recording studio?

Yeah, agreed. . . new poster, no history. . Hell,, even I have more rep . . .

I don't think anything wrapped in "visqueen" is within driving distance for me. . . Souinds like I'd need a passport for that. . .

That was a serious question and NOW I'm more confused!

Sorry,

No function, I just read down the screen looking for MSR-16.

Okay, cool. I thought there might be some different Google thing to get out all the useless stuff and narrow the search. Just wishful thinking.

there probably is some way to draft hte search criterian with '" and minus signs, I've never done that.

I'm kind of late here, but you really only need one google query. Using your example, where I live:

tascam ms-16 site:sfbay.craigslist.org

You can also set up a Google Alert, it will notify you when a new ad appears which matches your query.
