"I do remember this package coming through, but can't remember the music. If you'd like, I'll be happy to listen to it online and give you an opinion here."
Its not that important that I get your opinion anymore. I could have used it back when you said I was going to get it. It might have saved time and money who knows I might have even thrown in the towel on the project.
"I still have the emails the I sent you on this issue and will be happy to post them here to refresh your memory, if you want.
I don't mind questions or criticism, which is why I am here answering every question and complaint that you guys post. What I do mind is people who only try to instigate because they have buyer's remorse, don't want to do what I suggest for their promotion plan, etc.
Again, I have the series of emails in your file..."
The first time I made contact was about 15min after I joined to try and get my money back or at the very least try and get my time reduced to three months. I was told that were was not a hope in hell that was going to happen.
When I emailed a few times with no response I posted my concerns on your site after seeing someone else post with the same concerns and in a heart beat my post was yanked off.
I then posted what I was looking for in detail and at best got very vague answers.....I could have got better form the psychic hotlines.
After posting a few more times I then got back into a heated debate about crappy the service was. You finally stopped emailing and the last time I emailed you was about showcase rooms in Nashville and again your response was generic at best.
I did find out the information from songrepair.com Bronson was very helpful in telling me the ins and out of the facilities as well as hooking me up with some promotion people.
"I know it's frustrating that I am calling you out like this. Maybe stop right now is what you should do. "
Your not calling me out . I think your just digging a deeper hole
"It's there, but the tips aren't constant. I go by what the needs of people are. Just got a call from a post-production house in LA that needs some stuff. That doesn't happen every day though. Needs fluctuate"
Whatever..... its the only thing on the site that has much value. And it petered off . Everything else can be found for free.
"Ok. Well, email me the link to some mp3 files and I'll give you that advice now"
Hey....I sent you the site info on the top of the page if you would have checked it out you would have seen the MP3's its under music
You can also check www.mp3.com www.cdbaby.com www.amazon.com www.cdstreet.com
"Almost all distribution companies have been hit hard. That's how the business is."
And I paid $100.00 for that information
"Are you in need of distribution now?"
YES
"Do you have airplay?"
3 singles out in Canada
Are you playing live?
Opening spots whenever possible....tough to come buy in this country
"Do you have a national promotion campaign?"
Without distribution CMT and most press will not give us the time of day.....I’m not making this up ....these are facts here in Canada
As you can see from the previous post we are working the on line allot selling product in Europe, UK and Japan.
"The online A&R database on IndieBiz.com is free with membership. However, if you want to download something to do a mail merge with, that is something different."
Try and email folks on your data base. Its time to update and make that more user friendly
"Again, post what you need and I'll get you hooked up with the answers. You may not like what I have to say, but I will give you the info you're looking for."
To much smoke and mirrors David I don't think you have the answers I’m looking for.
"I can't speak for Tonos or Taxi, but I definitely don't sell the same service to everybody."
I can't speak for everyone but I know I got the generic treatment
"I think the problem here is that you are looking at the length of time you have been playing music. 20 years means nothing if you're still earning your living from working another job."
I have lived and breathed the industry in many forms but I have always been very dedicated to music.
Played on the road as a musician for 5 years solid
Toured the world as a professional Sound man for 5 years
Production Manager, Soundman for Nsync, 98 Degrees, Arron Carter etc etc on their first Canadian tours.
Production Manager for the US Army Canadian unveiling of the LAV ( Light Armoured Vehicle ) as well as the newest the Striker.
Production manger for 2 years for the COCA conference the largest even for all campuses buying live music in Canada.
Teach seminars on live production and touring at two colleges here in Canada.
I own Waterline Recording Studios as well as The P.A. Shop www.pashop.com
Don't be telling me that 20 years means nothing I’m sure there are a thing or two I can teach you.
"Have you read the book?"
Yes
"My co-writer works harder than almost any musician that I know...and that is why he is making so much money. We never marketed the process as one where you'd be able to sit on the couch all day, play shows when you feel like it, and collect tons of money via automatic deposit. This is hard work."
Selling pipe dreams is not hard work......
Go back and read what I do and the time I put in every dam day and then we will talk hard work.
"Ron, do you know how many people are in the exact same situation that you are? I can walk out my door and find about ten of them within five minutes."
Millions.....but they do not make the claims that you do
A finished CD with great players and mastering is a good start, but you mentioned nothing about having a market for it. How is your mailing list? Do you have an email list? What kinds of shows are you doing and how are you promoting them?
Read post way up.....answers the same question
"Radio doesn't sell records for indie bands...especially those without a live show in the area of broadcast and no distribution."
This band has product a great live show but no distribution....I think we have gone over that as well
"When was the last time you purchased something solely from hearing it on the radio?"
Couple of weeks ago
Kenny Chesney and Phil Vassar
"Instead of worrying about what people have to offer you, maybe you should look into what you have to offer other people."
This is probably the dumbest thing you have said so far.....If I didn't know better Id think you were running for congress
"Good bands in Nashville are a dime a dozen and talent here is as plentiful as table salt."
I love it when you hit it on the head.
"If you were to come to me and say, "David, I have sold 10,000 records in Canada, have a mailing list of 15,000 people, and am looking to take things to a new level," I'd be able to get a ton of people out to your show. Another "good country band" that is just good on tape is the last thing people want to hear though...they're looking for something they can sell."
If I had sold 10,000 units in Canada I wouldn't need to speak to you at all.
"And why are you coming all the way to Nashville? Do you have fans here?"
No this is the dumbest thing. Why would a country band go to Nashville....hmm
Well first that is where the market is.
Second its cheaper for me to go to Nashville than it is to go pretty much anywhere in Canada so why not go to a place where the decision makers are to try and create a buzz
Third is we have no market in Canada....we have 56 Country Stations and the US has 2700. Our touring season is June - Sept then we pretty much call it winter.
"My advise would be to take over your own market first. The grass is always greener where it is watered...and that is much easier close to home."
Read above post again
Goodnight David
PS We are coming back in Feb to the 12th and Porter with a new bunch of songs, many that we recieved while in Nashville working with some great songwriters. If you come out I'll buy you a couple of US beers and maybe we can solve all the problems in the world
Sorry Folks
To waste so much space on this and I had no intention of blowing my little horn but I felt it necessary. I’m no spring chicken as many of you can tell by now and I have been to the dance a few times.
I’m like everyone else I just want what is advertised and I am paying for. If you can't deliver or the customer is not happy refund or work something out.
