One of these days, after I finish the studio, maybe you'll drive to Austin and teach ME how to mix drums?

These tracks were recorded well. An autistic monkey could mix them, and most people could have mixed these better than I did. HOWEVER, you can bet your ass I'll take you up on an invite to the studio. I'll bring my guitar. We'll be the most famous piano/acoustic guitar duet of middle aged men in all of Texas. :D

Ghost, FYI, NWR doesn't touch the hi-fi or download, it's left 100% original.

Chris, be listening to you again soon, in the middle of a move, so a lot of stuff is packed up for it, including my good speakers....

We'll have to get together a HomeRecording.com Texas BBQ or something! I'm just down the road in San Antonio and I cruise through Austin and Waco all the time. We can meet up at Mike Jones' place and have a good old time! I'll bring my electric or my drum kit and we'll jam!

btw Chris, I'm digging the tune. I have no comments to make on the recording of it, as you already seem to know a good deal more than I do, but the tune itself has a nice flow to it without seeming to get old. I'm on my 3rd listen in a row. I've gotta admitt it, I'm a sucker for that chord progression :)

I liked the tune, Chris. It's recorded VERY well. Nice tone and balances to the instruments. There is a little mud in the mid, but nothing that couldn't be corrected by a good mastering engineer.

I particularly took note of when the harmonies kicked in later in the tune. It provided a nice lift at the right moment.

Very good job.

Chris, that was one of the coolest things I've heard off of this website and this isn't normally my kind of music. Thanks for introducing me to something new and great, and please accept a most sincere and heartfelt "FUCK YOU". :D

I head down to Texas quite a bit (family and friends from Houston to Denton and all of the "better parts of Texas" in between) and I'd love to come down and play with all you guys sometime. TEXFEST, anyone? (or JAMTEX...no wait, sounds like a tampon...)

Anyway, great job Chris. I'm now going to listen to "Insults In F".

Sorry to bump this again, but I wanted to send out a last "thank you" for listening.

Purge - lol; I'd almost forgotten that I had 'Fuck You' up on my page. (Insults in the Key of 'F'). That was a fun one - many moons ago, we started throwing out various "challenges" in the forum...kinda' like the mixing challenges, but with different subjects. That recording was borne from the "Record and Mix An Entire Song In One Hour" challenge...good times, good times, lol. And those drums sound SOOO real, lol. Hey, thanks for listening.

K-dub - much appreciate the ears, and you're absolutely right about the mud. I tried something new this time, which was to basically not jack with the mix too much after the fact. Now I'm in the stage where I'll pull it into the Waves LinMB and totally destroy it because I'm too freaking cheap to have anything mastered by somebody who knows what they're doing, lol. Again, thanks a lot for listening.

sile - there seems to be a flood of Texas ppl in the clinic lately (Texas Flood I guess :D ). I can't think of anything I'd enjoy more than hanging out at JONES' HOUSE in Austin and cooking some ribs and playing guitar. I need to start PM'ing him until he acquiesces, but next time you're anywhere close to Waco, shoot me a PM and we'll hook up.

Okay, this thread got waaaay too much attention because of the title, I think. I appreciate the ears a lot, and I'd love to hear anymore comments...but you really should go listen to "SittinIdol's" cover of Shine On You Crazy Diamond instead.

I'm coming at you more from a musician/listener standpoint and agree with everyone else...Excellent tune, man!

When will the hits stop?

Once again Chris......Nice job man!
You guys put together a hell of a collaboration.
Just flat out Love the arrangement.
If James Taylor and Bad Company start knocking on your door looking for fresh ideas. Don't be surprised.

And Hey If you're still interested in recording "Angel" just email me anytime.
Talk to ya soon

Well, I just got broadband installed tonight. And thanks to your spamming of the ADD thread, this was my very first download. What can I say except, what a major waste of bandwidth.

:D :D Just kidding. Real nice job. Loved the acoustics and the harmonies (could used even more harmony IMHO). Glad to see Tjarko finally doing something decent on the bass. :)

Please don't take offense to this, but were the drums sampled? I thought the cymbals sounded just a tad like samples (really good samples, I should add). Or it could just be the computer speakers I'm listening on.

Fine work, but then I'm not surprised given the talent who participated.

Hey, thanks a lot for listening...sorry to invade the ADD thread...it was kind of an inside joke, lol.

Anyway, congrats on the broadband...you can never go back. No samples in here. I did something a little odd with the reverb on the overhead tracks, and it seems to be phasified on the mp3...I keep meaning to fix that. It was actually WATYF on the drums...despite the fact that he hates my music, he did a really nice job.

Hey, thanks again for the ears. Same goes for you, Seeker and CGibson. This thread should die, lol. :D

Hi Chris-Neat song-nice vocal performance-kind of more bluesy than I remember you singing, good performance.

Sound wise-the acoustic sounded like it was lacking in high end sparkle a bit--Solid rhythym section sound and playing(tjarko rules)...As far as the background instruments-the slide sounded kinda "honky" to me-maybe just too much overdrive for my taste...

*bumped up 6-14k on my player it sounded better to me.

Where I think this could be improved is with a little creative arrangement eg:

1:20-let the melodica be featured between verses-sounds like guitar is overpowering it a bit. More melodica!!!
3:17-2 guitar solos-its obvious the wah guitar really has the spotlight here-the slide is piercing away along side it. Too bad they both didnt have time for solos-as its obvious they are both top notch players....

Oh well thats all that bothered me.

Maybe some verb or delay on the slide.
With a touch of melodica on the side.
Panning?
