G'Day All.
Hmmm... This thread seems a little old, hope someone actually still reads it! I stumbled across it by accident, but here goes.
I have three Yamaha guitars and absolutely love them - a 12 string cutaway acoustic,
RGX312 electric, and another electric that's an RGZ-something. (this is what prompted my post, I'm hoping someone might help me to identify it!)
It's a rather long story, but to keep it as short as I can I bought it off a mate a couple of years ago. He had started a restoration job on it, but buggered it up a bit and lost interest. However, among his screw-ups were that he had sanded the headstock thereby removing the model designation there, had sprayed (badly) lacquer over the body without masking the neck pocket and so sprayed over the model designation there as well. When I asked him if he actually remembered the model number he said "huh"??
I've now completed the resto - and might I say, am really happy with it - but I'm dying to know exactly what it is. It's kinda like an RGZ 621, except the body routing is different (that 621 had a funny cutout in the output jack area, mine doesn't have that). The neck joint system is also like the higher-end RGZs, where it's not a single 4-hole plate, but two die-cast "bars" to reinforce the neck screws. It also has a straight headstock, whereas the 621 had a scarf jointed neck and angled headstock. It's exactly the same shape though(the headstock, that is), which is the reason I've been advised that it's definitely an RGZ. It also has the Floyd-ish locking nut with height adjusting grubscrews (to set first fret action) as do the RGZ sreies. I have some pics (links below), but bear in mind that it's been restored - which involved a complete refinish - so it ain't the original colour, and the original maple fingerboard was replaced with ebony and abalone inlay dots. Oh, and the carbon fibre "veneer" on the headstock isn't original either (or the decal, for reasons described above) - whilst I had the old fingerboard removed I inlaid a pair of carbon fibre rods into the neck, and just carried that theme though to the headstock for "jerk-off" value.

If anyone can help and would like more pics, I can post them on that site almost straight away. (rather than clog up this site with them)
Thanks for any help anyone might be able to provide. I've been looking into this for ages through several different forums, and through Yamaha themselves - unfortunately their support for out-of-production guitars leaves me wanting just a bit.
Cheerz!
