I'm one of "the n00bz"!

Hey my name's steve (duh) and I'm an alcoho...err, I mean I'm.. uh.. let me start over!

I've been performing, writing, and recording music in one fashion or another for around 8 years. I guess you could call me somewhere between a 'Novice' and an 'Intermediate'. I signed up to "un-learn what I have learned" and start out into the world of home recording with professional-quality results in mind for the future. Hopefully, this resource will be one I keep coming back to for expert advice/thoughts/etc., along with the "charismatic a**hole" attitude I'm accustomed to in the field :)

welcome all. thanks for sharing. :)
make sure you wear your cup (i.e. the one for your nads), develop a thick skin and bring your security blanket if you intend to ask any advice or opinions from the regulars in this forum :D
there are a whole lot of friggin' smart dudes and dudettes here though!

Yeah I came here knowing it'd be a trial by fire, so to speak, but I've had enough of a taste of several different parts of the music biz to know if you can't take a joke (or a personal threat haha), you're never gonna make it. I know I don't know shit, and I think that will help me learn :D

On a related note, would it be a good idea to start a thread with my current equipment list and a few sample tracks, just to get an idea of how far I have to go before my current level of "sucky no-talent n00b" might be removed? :p

people's opinions are just that. you can post mp3's in the mp3/mixing forum and get feedback if you offer yours to others-- it's a mutual helping thread (give to get).
you can post your equipment, but if it works for you that's awesome. someone always has better stuff

Hi....I've been here over 2 years, and can't leave. I suck. Oh, and I can't read. My cat is posting this for me, while I eat Cheetos. :D

you'll find that a lot of people on this forum can't read. it's been evidenced in a few polls.

I'd respond to this, if I could read.

I can't read either. Can someone post an mp3 of the spoken text of this thread? Thanks!

Yeah, good to post a tune in the clinic as suggested. But I wouldn't list the gear. It's all about the source sound, room and recording skills... gear is secondary. Show a pic of your tracking room instead.

No, seriously, most comments in the clinic are about aspects of sound quality and recording techniques. Gear discussions sometimes arise out of that. I'd just mention the gear when it's asked about. Just my own taste.
