Weird sound when stopping playback in Sonar XL 2.2 and MOTU PCI 324/2408mkII optical

I get a weird loud sound (sounds like a horn honking) when stopping playback in Sonar XL 2.2 ONLY when tracks are routed to virtual mains that go to a MOTU PCI 324 card with a 2408mkII interface, and ONLY on the optical outputs. Tracks assigned to the 2408 analog outputs do not do this.

I have:

440BX mobo with PIII 800mhz cpu and 256mb ram

Any ideas guys? It is the only weird clitch, but it is sure an annoying one!

Hmmmmmmmm....I assume that the clock is either set to internal or word clock? What operating system?

Windows 2000.

The word clock is set to internal. Playback is fine. It is just when I stop playback, and only when the audio is routed to optical outputs.

Haven't a clue, really. But a couple of questions:

How long does the sound go on for (short blast, or continuous)?

Does it do it on all files?

Any midi in any of the files?

This is just when you manually stop playback, or also when it reaches the end of the song as well?

It is a short blast that is on all tracks (I know this because when I have a tracked solo'ed in Sonar, the "blast" is much quieter, but still there...as I add tracks, the blast get's louder and louder)

No midi.

Just when I manually stop playback. Sorry, that would make a difference huh? :)

Well there's the solution. Don't stop it manually!! :D

Just looking to remove variables thinking that might help pinpoint where the problem is coming from.

Are you using Input Monitoring. Is it possible it is a brief echo of the last note of the song via the Input Monitoring?

You still didn't tell us if it happens on other files as well, or just this one.

It does it on every project I have worked on.

No input Monitoring. I am only using this setup right now to mix.

I probably should have stopped there. :D

Nothing comes to mind that could be causing this. Let us know if you figure it out.

I get this on my Audiophile 24/96 when linking to another SPIDF device and the sample rates are not matched.
