Just built myself a new PC, a rather nice one. Everything works great until I got this HELLo Kitty virus.

At first I thought I killed it pretty good by follwoing the steps provided online, and ran anti-virus to make sure it was gone. Ok, that's taken care of, and everything went great until I upgraded from Delta 44 to 66.

First thing was clicks and pops in Sonar(only sonar, not in SoundForge) Reinstalled Sonar and updated the WDM driver, problem fixed. Now...

Every time I click on "arm-record" in Sonar, computer crashes. Every F* time. So, I figure I would wipe out everything on my 2 HDs, and start all over again.

After reinstalling win XP pro, things looking good, except, it won't shut down now! It just hangs there saying "logging out" or "saving changes" and stays that way. BTW, I haven't installed Sonar yet because I want to make sure my PC is in good condition before I run into anymore problems.

Any Ideas? This is really weird

Do you have a network card in the machine? If so, try removing it and see if your problem(s) go away. In my experiance the shutdown problem you describe is quite common, but nearly always associated with a networking issue. Windows wants to close all networking connections before it shuts down, and if it can't it will hang. Windows 98 is especially bad at this, but I've seen Win XP do it to.

Also, the Cakewalk 9 manual mentions that active network connections (even just the card idling "pinging" in the background) can cause pops and clicks.

This is why I always suggest a seperate DAW computer that has no internet connection.

Sorry, I know that doesn't help ya much.:(

Yes, i have a network card, but it seems to be working with Sonar fine before.
Anyways, I went to microsoft's page and did a update. My comp shuts down correctly now.

For anyone who hasn't updated your win XP yet, go do it. This does happen to alot of people
