OK me and my homies wanna start recording, on either the computer or on the DJ Mixer, can you guys help me on what we need and post what we should get, I would like to spend under $200, pleasde let me know< I'm open to offers if you guys have any!!!!!

Ok, how bout you post a list of what gear you have, what software you have, and if you have a soundcard in your computer like I asked you before?

Ok- do you have any software? Most pc's will come with some basic sound recorder stuff but to mix your music you are gonna want something better.

OK what kind of inputs does your sound card have? Most cards that come with home computers have a little stereo jack labeled line in. You will need to get a cable that goes from RCA on the mixer to 1/8" stereo on your sound card. That will at least get you going. It won't sound too great, but you can plug a mic into your dj mixer and record it into your computer. At some point I'd recommend getting a regular mixer or stand-alone preamp for recording your vocals, as well as a real soundcard. Behringer makes some inexpensive mixers, and you can look through the computer/soundcard forum for some soundcard choices.

ok I looked and on the front of my computer there a microphone and headset jack, and in the back theres another microphone and a blue colored one that I couldnt see, can you post a picture of what you mean!

Is it a soundblaster card? Mine had 3 outs for speakers, a mic in, a line in, and a digital out. the line in had a symbol like ((())) (sort of ) next to it.

Yeah is it blue, it has a pink, green, and blue, and the blue one has that (()) thing on it!!!

Are there markings by the others? I don't really remember whether it was a line in or speaker out. I'm kind of assuming it was a line in, because my speakers were hooked up to two other jacks. Where are your computer speakers hooked up? There was a little thing that looked like a microphone (mic in) as well. You can definitely use that, but you will have to be careful of the volume because the mic in will distort easily.

OK I'm betting that's your line in. Hook up your mixer and check it out.

hook it up how do I do that!!!!

I mean I looked and all I have is some aduio puts those red ad white things

You will need to get a cable that goes from dual RCA on the mixer end to 1/8" stereo on your sound card.

WOW can you give me some links or pictures of what exactly I need, thanks!

This is what you are looking for. Try a local Radio Shack.

Whats it called and any were online to buy it, thanks!

Metaphor........... if you can't even help yourself with all the information you were given so far, you really have no business doing any sort of recording.......

Audio engineering takes skill & talent - and not less than A WHOLE LOT OF EFFORT and dedication to get there. Answering reasonable questions is one thing, not even trying to help yourself as you go along asking is a completely different story...........

I agree with Blue Bear. If you can't figure out how to connect a simple RCA to 1/8" cable, you have no business trying to do this yourself.

Your best bet, is to save up some more money and go to a professional studio. For $200, you won't get much in a studio, or at home. At best you'll get a crap recording, that you can't figure out how to burn to a CD to give to your other "homies" next week, and we'll have to listen to you piss and moan about not being able to work the software on your computer, until someone walks you through that.

Try reading your instruction manuals for your computer, I'm more than sure it'll tell you how to hook up your "dj mixer".

Good luck with all that. Really, I mean that.
No, wait. I don't.
