lemme get in on this...
bknot1 said:what are you tryin to grasp about the .wav file?
DesertEase said:should we break em down to 2 track wav. files or no? i think it would be easier for mastering if we did it that way wouldn't it? anywayz for the comp cd we should go hard and smooth like the best of both worlds type ish
Mindset said:Personally I rather have them each encoded in their own wave form. What's everyone's recording rates? I can work up to 64bit float (or 24 bit in pro tools) & 96khz. Sessions probably would be around 300mb or 280mb zipped up.
DesertEase said:so for the wavefiles do you want 1 wav. with all the drums and 1 wav. with all the instruments? cuz i read somewhere that ur supposed to send em out that way for mastering? idk i could be wrong tho i read it a while ago, i got broadband
Mindset said:kick.wav
snare.wav
hihat.wav
leadguitar.wav
bass.wav
vox verse.wav
voxadlib.wav
like that. each single wave. Easier to mixdown before mastering. Mastering only polishes the work done by the mixing engineer, and fixes any small flaws, but mastering engineers can't work miracles.
dnkygirl said:Ok so are we saying a left/right stereo mix so that would be (2) wav files. That would normally be enough for a mastering engineer to master. I'm getting confused...

Mindset said:unless the mix down was not that great in the first place. Then it requires a lot more work to make it sound better. Really, I could take a song in stereo and take it up to the studio, but I won't be able to run just your vocals into a LA2A, or EQ the vocals a bit through the Neve console to give it some analog taste, or maybe I'll want to use the Fairy Dust on the SSL console or simply let it run through a Reel of tape to give it a tad of vintage. So preferably unless it's a stereo and needs to be stereo, all other instruments, vocals, vox doubles, adlibs, sound effects, should be mono wave files. If the beat itself is 16 instruments in mono, than it should be 16 wave files.
