Hello,

First of all, sorry for my poor english. I will try to describe my problem as clearly as I can.

I was running CEP 2 when the program suddenly shut down with a message error saying that my system has crashed trying to access the 'WDM ?' part of my sound card and that the option was now turned off in CEP.

Since then, impossible to run the program again (Message : CEP 2 has genrated errors...). I have tryed to uninstall / reinstall the soft but no result. Same problem. I have also updated my soundcard driver but no result.

Is there anything I can do ?

At what point does CEP crash? On opening the program or trying to play something?
Does Media Player still work with Audio?
The soundchip may be faulty.
Can you re-install CEP?
Can you re-install DirectX?
Have you installed another audio program or altered system other than re-install soundcard driver?
Open Task Manager (Ctrl+Alt+Del) and see if anything suspicious is running.
Real Player can cause troubles.

I was playing a multitrack session when CEP crashed. I then received an error message saying that the WDM option was now turned off in CEP and that I had to contact support. But as CEP has now moved under Adobe, I don't know if I will receive an answer and even if the given email address is still OK

Yes

Can you re-install CEP?
Yes. I have tried. After launch of the program, I receive an error message : ' CEP has generated errors and will be closed...'
Can you re-install DirectX?
Done. No result.

No.
Open Task Manager (Ctrl+Alt+Del) and see if anything suspicious is running.
Nothing. I have closed every other sessions.

Really thank for your help. Any other idea ? I assume an hidden file prevents me to re-open CEP, but where ? Meanwhile I have reinstalled an oldest version of CEP and it works.

Not really got any more ideas. If the old version works, it might be some file got corrupted.
But CEP works with temp files and you enter an amount in the settings that it will always leave free on the disk. I don't know how it reacts if it hits the limit during a session. Do you have plenty of space on the disk?

Have you installed a service pack recently or maybe Windows update has altered something? Windows update prefers Signed Microsoft drivers but sometimes they are no good for music programs. CEP1 does not access the driver in WDM Extensible mode.
I would have the machine not update automatically and turn off the driver signing system.

I got a free upgrade (well it's the same program, just with the names changed) From CEP2 to Audition1.0 from Adobe. I don't know if that deal still stands. You could also, for a little money, upgrade to the newest 1.5 which has features well worth having. All you need is your CEP2 CD code to apply for the update. CEP2 does not have to be present to install Audition 1.5 but it does for 1.0 when you get a new serial number also. It does not update the existing version, it is a complete version that goes in its own folder.

Your English is better than mine, and I think I was an English major in college.

I have nothing else to add to this :D

STS,

I think you may have a corrupted file in your temp folder (which is what CEP runs on) and is causing errors when trying to open.

Do this.

On you Keyboard, press the windows key plus the "e" key to open Windows Explorer. In the address bar of the Explorer, type %temp% and hit enter. Delete ALL of your CEP files found in that folder. It will not harm anything.

Restart your PC, and try to open CEP.

Good luck.

Really thanks for all your pieces of advice, but still no result.

I've tried to delete every temp folders. I have even accessed the windows registry files (regedit) and deleted everything which seemed related to CEP or Syntr., but no use...

There should be a stupid file or value somewhere. And impossible to get any help from old syntr. support.

Great ! I'm afraid I will have to format my disk and reinstall everything... Argh...
