Where can I find WDM Drivers for a sound-blaster live platinum 5.1 card. I checked out creative lab's site but I couldn't figure out which drivers to download. I am having a hard time getting Sonar to record 24 bit or any audio for that matter. It tells me that my sound card's drivers are incompatible with the program. Sounds like horse-crap to me! Anyone have any suggestions?

Do you have DirectX 8 installed already? You need that too....

I don't believe the SB Live cards are 24-bit (at least my SB Live Value card isn't). You will probably have to record at 16 bit (or get a better card).

What OS are you running? The Win ME drivers on Creative's site are WDM (although it doesn't say so on their site). However, I recall some mention about not using them with the 5.1 series.

Also from the Sonar newsgroup they claim you can get SB Live drivers at: http://alive.singnet.com.sg/.

One last item - if you are running Win ME, I believe the drivers supplied with the OS are also WDM. Therefore, you might want to check to be sure you don't already have them.

Another last item :), if you are just recording audio, the WDM drivers are not going to do much for you. They help reduce latency which I believe is important for midi sequencing and direct input monitoring. I'm recording audio (no midi) using a Delta 1010 card with MME drivers without any problems. Your problem may be more associated with trying to record 24 bit with a 16 bit card.

Ooops!

Ok,
Notice by my name it says newbie. I took another look at the specs on my card and, just like Dachay said, SB live cards aren't capable of recording @ 24 bit. I ordered a Delta 66 yesterday. Thanks for your inputs. If I have any problems running both cards when I install the Delta 66 I'll post a new thread. I am running Win 98 and external midi components as well and still need WDM drivers to correct midi latency. Does creative labs supply WDM drivers for Win 98 on their web page. I checked my install discs and couldn't find anything that looked like WDM on them.

SB Live Drivers

You can download the SB Live drivers for Win98 here:
http://www.americas.creative.com/support/files/download.asp?Centric=108&OS=4

You can get the SB LIve drivers for Win ME here:
http://www.americas.creative.com/support/files/download.asp?Centric=108&OS=11

The Win98 drivers are Vxd drivers and the Win ME are WDM. Actually, I understand that Win ME is actually a hybrid of .vxd and .wdm drivers. I have been dealing with this driver issue lately with Gigastudio on another recording platform. Gigastudio will not work under .wdm drivers and requires either GSIF or Vxd. I have Win ME and Nemesys recommended that I install the Win98 drivers into WIn ME if I want to use SB Live. This is not easy. WIn ME wants to instal their own WDM driver for SB Live. When I finally did get the 98 drivers installed in ME, my system was not stable. I am now looking at Audiophile 24/96 which has GSIF, WDM, Vxd, ASIO and just about everything in their new beta driver. The converters are also better in the Audiophile and I am hoping that the S/PDIF will not have as much hum as the SB Live S/PDIF did.
