wav types

normally, i just use pcm/uncompressed waves when i export cause thats what it's on by default, but i've noticed, of course, theres several other types.

Can you guys explain what these are?

File types like ADPCM, DVI/IMA, MuLaw, etc are all compressed wave formats, usually in 4 or 8-bits, and usually with truncated sample rates.

If you want to burn that wav to a CD at any point, you will need to use pcm/uncompressed, with of course a sample rate of 44.1, and a bit depth of 16bit.

okay. why would you want to make an 8-bit or 4-bit wav, though?
 
My guess would be the 4/8Bit is for the telephone industry. They use shitty-sounding soundfiles like .vox, so that's probably up their street.
