"fender ought to give his estate a cut every time the sell a strat. "

lol, so true

...wait a minute, which Jimi we're talking about here ?
:D

My 2 cents:

If you think he was overrated, go and learn some of Electric Ladyland, and then we'll talk some more.

foo

yeah, the electric ladyland stuff is complicated. and if you think thats tough, sit down and learn the slow instrumental that came after "the star spangled banner" at the woodstock concert. its in A minor and done with octaves and spanish style fill ins and lead. very tough peice to get down right. learn that and you will have more respect for jimi hendrix

who else could have went onstage at the woodstock music fest and did "the star spangled banner" like that.

Exactly!

I was lucky enough to play that at a 4th of July celebration at Ft. Bragg, N.C. in about 1974, in an auditorium of about 2-3 thousand people. We were the first band up and it was the first song. It was funny to see all the people (including Army officers)standing up with their hands on their hearts while I played this thing solo the best I could. I even included the Taps thing that Hendrix plays near the end of that tune. I was using a Gibson SG and a Big Muff Pi pedal. Man that thing would scream.

The man could take noise and shape music out of it. There will never be anyone else who even comes close to what he did. I feel he is very underrated, as his influence is still being felt in music (and life) today.

NOT overrated.

I've heard people echo statements I've already made on this subject, on the other thread. I can't really add anything without repeating again what everyone else just said.

-Jimi Hendrix is NOT overrated. People who really believe that Hendrix is overrated as a guitarist are in the minority, I'm sure. Y'all can just read this and weep.-

Where is the world going to when guitarists start to doubt Jimi!!!

He is an example for all, even if you are nor into his style he is the example of how someone can become one with his instrument.

I've been thinking so many times what music had been today if Jimi was alive. In what way he would have developed his music. I'm quite sure he still would have been a great artist. Just look at the "short" time he was with us and what he made with this time. The solo career was not more than three years!
