warble distortion...don't know where it's coming from

Heya guys!!!

OK, I'm still the world's biggest loser (well, maybe not the biggest...ever seen the clothes that that Santa dude wears???).

I have so much to do/learn/buy/remember. Lately, it's been trying to get my guitar tone happening, first, just to listen (getting fairly close), and this weekend, I've been trying to get what I hear to Sonar.

What I'm hearing, before recording, sounds decent (if not killer), but there's a weird distorted 'warble' effect that happens when I playback, just on the guitars, not on midi bass or drums).

Here's an example:

Excuse the sloppy playing, most kindly, please:)

If this sounds familiar, the guitar is a continued jam on this:
). That's from when I just got my Boogie...do you hear an improvement over the last month of dialing it in? I hope so, even with the warbling distortion I'm getting in Sonar, I hope it sounds better.

Any ideas about what might be going wrong? Every meter I'm reading in under clipping level, even the metered effects. Windows/Creative mixer: no maxed out faders there, either...

(I'm still just farting around with this, I HAVE to go buy the real Sonar, even though it am terrible with it, cuz all my files keep corrupting...there's a lesson there boys and girls: bad things happen to bad people at the WORST times:()

I really really really really really really really want to start recording soon. I'm getting very discouraged. But at least there's still the songs in my head...they ain't going anywhere, they've been there for decades, so I'm really in no hurry.

Any idea on the warble? I honestly don't feed my computer ANY alcohol:D :D :D

Are you using the trial version?

No, though that would probably be a smarter idea at this stage. I downloaded from kazaa a few months ago when I first got started with recording. Stupid move I know, but I figured at the time I had a lot of software choices, was a complete newbie to music software, and I didn't want to purchase the wrong one. Now I'm just being stubborn, I want Cakewalk's support (i.e., purchasing it), but it always gives me such a hard time because I find it so complicated, so I just haven't done it yet.

I know, I'm an ass, and if this and all the other fubars I've had are because it's from kazaa, I've no one but myself to blame.

I have so much to buy still, it's unreal, and Sonar is on the top of my list:)

Shawn,

People who pirate software don't usually go down on this BBS too well... just a note. But a suggestion for your problem.. check the latency.

We had the the discussion with Shawn some time ago... He promised then he should buy the software "after a testing period". We're still waiting in excitement... Buy the damn program, Shawn!

And you've been here long enough to know that MP3s goes into the Clinic... ;)

Sorry moskus. I should have posted in the clinic, I know, but that place can be kinda rough sometimes.

I am definitely still in a testing stage, inasmuch as I'm still not sure I'll ever be able to really record with Sonar, because I just can't seem to keep any foundational info in my head, and every time I use it, it's like pulling teeth. But I do agree, it's been a long time, and maybe I should just suck it up because, ultimately, I know I'll be using it whether it's 'easy' or not.

Sorry guys, hope I didn't offend you.

Shawn

No, that's ok (but I'm starting to think that a purchase is overdue ;)).

It's just that when you buy the program, you get this lovely book called "the manual" which is really good to explain the basics... :p

Thanks moskus:)

Ya, that's what I mean by Cakewalk support, very badly needed:)

I bought Power! but that's still not the manual.

One thing too is, I'm quite aware I've got cheese on my computer, and I'm aftraid to do any real recording with it, because when I DO buy the real version, I'll be re-installing everything, AND not opening any files I made on the cracked version, because I don't want to bug it up. So, from my own point of view, until I purchase it, I can't really record anyways.

I am my own worst enemy:(

Shawn:):):)

O man, that's why my cat's been freaking out for 2 days. Seems a pigeon has decided to nest on my balcony:(

Yeah, you're right. I am broke until next 15th, at which time I have to get a poweramp and cab, and I'll get the store to put Sonar on the bill, since it's credit anyways:)

That's been part of the problem, too, I'm getting low on money with all these crazy purchases LMAO.

Shawn

Shawn,

You are buying your stuff the wrong way around... buy the software to record first... then the equipment ;-)

That way you can record using ur new equipment as you buy it ;-)

Porter

Where were you 3 months ago Porter? LMAO.

You're right of course...

As a guitar player first and foremost, I've gone into that neverneverland of "Searching for THE Golden Tone" without even being able to put that down for anyone to hear (I mean, I wouldn't record a full song that I had any feeling for anyways right now, stuck with experiments, which are valid of course, but certainly aren't why I'm doing all this).

Shawn:)

Well let's see... did I own Sonar back then????

I was definately on the BBS... actually I must say that I've had Sonar for a little longer. I've transferred over all the songs I had recorded on my Roland 840EX, recorded 1 song in Sonar, which was only a Vocal & Guitar. Other than that I've been playing around with it... I'm going to start to record soon. I've been spending a lot of time putting things away. I got married last November and we are still unpacking boxes... I finally cleaned up my room/studio... moved some furniature and it's all messed up again. I'll clean it up THEN I'll start to record... so I'll probably start in the next 6 months... ok, maybe next week then.

I'm looking forward to posting something in the forums soon.

You know, if I'd have bought a Pod in the first place (not that I'm complaining, just being realistic for a moment), I'd be on a completely different path.

Here's my screensaver. Right now, I only have the Rec/Pre and the G-Force, so you can see why I'm in freakout mode over money:

Thanks...

BTW My Desktop Wallpaper is currently set to Marvin the Matrian... a scann of one of the 'How to draw Marvin' Cells.
