I have cw pro 9 ,have heard of break out boxes any help appreciated ,preferably the economical way ........thanks

How many audio sources are you looking to multitrack at one time?

do you have a mixer? you don't absolutely have to have a mixer to record a band or ensemble to pc, but if you have one, and you like it, it could figure into the soundcard decision.

Delta 1010 is an excellent soundcard with 8 individual inputs and 8 outputs.

However, you will need preamps for each input (at least assuming the source for each channel is a mic). Therefore j's point about a mixer is valid. A mixer is typically the most economical way to get multiple pre-amps. Mackie mixers have a pretty good rep in a reasonable price range.

There are many ways you could go on this, but you would not regret latching onto a Delta 1010 and a small Mackie mixer. You're probably looking around $1300 - $1500 in total, though, for new equipment.

...or a Delta 66 plus an omni I/O breakout box/mixer. This is a good option if you didn't want to commit to a mixer at this stage but still wanted multiple I/O, spdif and excellent pre's. Two headphone outs as well, which is useful for guitarist and vocalist work.
