if you want a fender that sounds like a gibson ....... try a fender robben ford ....... that will come close to a gibson sound

Amen!I have a hot rail in the bridge pos. on my strat and it smokes.While it may not sound exactly like a Les Paul, it definately makes a strat more versatile.IMO it does the high gain thing better than a Paul,and I can stillSpin Doctor said:

Hey Nightfire, did you get the TC90 yet? The TC does look cool and if it plays well for you, it looks like you'll get a tone thats not stereotypical Strat, Tele, or Les Paul so you could make it your own sound ~ the rest is in your fingers 
I'd be surprised and impressed if you found a similar as possible Gibson with P90's and it sounded the same as the TC90.
It took me a few years but I resolved my search for a versatile range of guitar sounds with a Line 6 Variax but it depends what you need. I didnt have the money to buy a Strat, Tele, LP, etc
I've given up on trying to make a strat sound like a Les Paul. I dont think it's possible due to the different construction, weight, materials, neck joins etc. The same pickups will respond differently in each guitar.
My last experiment had neck and middle 1980's USA std strat pickups and a splitable DiMarzio evolution in the bridge. The evolution is great but now with the Variax models I'm getting the best strat tone I've had (without having to have a 'real' strat) and once I got onto the Les Paul models I got some sweet humbucker tones and although I didnt plan to get rid of the Strat/evolution hybrid ~ it became redundant. Before I finally bought Variax I did a comparison with an A-B box and put a Std USA Strat vs the Variax; then a Std USA Tele; then a Gibson Les Paul & 335 (I couldnt AB with vintage insturments of course~ not many people could track them all down) and I felt Line 6 have captured the essence of those guitars. I can also make my own models via the Variax Workbench progamme so I could take a Tele thinline body and put P90s in it and listen while I tweek it in the computer then load it into the guitar once its done.
We could open the debate about 'virtual' vs 'real' guitars
Anyway, if you play the TC90 and has that elusive perfect feel, maybe its for you ~ if not, check out a Variax. Frambo out
