This is a song by a local singer-songwriter that was suggested to me years ago when I did a different number by the same person with a fiddler friend of mine. I took a listen, and thought "never gonna happen," but a year of staring at 4 walls can make a person do strange things. And, our son had played on a couple tracks (willingly!) in the past 2 years, and I thought he'd be ideal for the violin part in this.

Anyway, I cannot sing like Ken Gaines, the author who kills this on his Catfish Moon album, but I'm about 4/5ths of the way with my mimicked version - waiting for a harmony vocal and 2nd guitar part from folks who describe themselves as clueless or technology-averse... So, in the meantime, your input can't do much but help. I will say the vocals are unlikely to improve much, as this is the result of a stretching into a range I hadn't seen for probably 15 or 20 years, so there's that... But, it still has mix decisions and other things open. I'll be back with remixes and other parts as they materialize ("real soon now" I'm told).

Einstein's Violin by Ken Gaines, so far just me and son, Carl, here - 3 tracks recorded separately (his in a NYC apartment with USB mic).

[edit: attached file removed - project capped off with minimal changes due to a couple folks not being able to commit]

You need to throw a little rolling banjo in the background, and find yourself a girl to sing harmonies with you. That should be enough.

Well, maybe grab a string bass....

The harmony part is supposed to happen - waiting and waiting on that. My friend that usually plays along on guitar will be adding something, I don't know what but it's usually interesting. Also waiting on that. I might simplify my guitar part down if he gets "busy" but have to wait and see. (I've actually been told I sound like a banjo sometimes - I can get [too] "busy!")

I've thought about the bass, but the original doesn't have one, so hesitant. Once I ask one of my bass player friends, I'll be committed, so still thinking, but it's under consideration.

Thanks!
