Nice tones. Guitar and bass compliment each other very well. Cool modern rock sounds. Has elements of quite a few different bands. I'm listening on a pc with just ok, 5.1 speakers, so can't make too many comments, other than it sounds good here. Very cool, NL.

I like the di gtr sound you got.

I think combined with a distant mic'ed cabinet you get alot more depth.

The snare, kick and toms all need to be replaced IMO.

The cymbals, they have a very short decay, im not feelin that part of the drums.

Perhaps try light reverb on the overheads ( medium decay )
And then make them bloom with a compressor ( fastish attack and slower release ).

(EDIT) Also the vocals, you need to compress them more so they sit stronger in the track, also maybe a little delay would help bring some interest to a rather drab vocal part.

Also it sounds like you may have over limited this mix.

Prob the worst sounding snare i have heard. Not sure if this sanre is possible to get a good sound from. You could try boosting the his cutting the lo mids and maybe even cutting the lo a bit.
The kick drum is ok.
The guitars are pretty huge, but a little too processed for my liking. Might fit better with better drums.
What is your drum mic set-up. Are you only using two mics? One for kick and one for the whole kit? Just a guess. I can hear the room on the snare mic. Sounds like old recordings i did with two dynamic mics on the drum kit.
Solo might be a little loud.

Two 57's in an x/y 12 feet in front of the kit. That's it. I did everything, except record the drums. The drum tracks are more than six months old - it was a long WIP.

Anyway, thanks for the critique (Fin too!) I will do a bit of tweaking and re-post a re-mix.

Thanks Fin -

This is part of the project with the old drums, so there is only so much I can do - although I just got Drumagog on the group buy!

Your comments are pretty spot on. The decay problem stems from the -10db pad that comes with octava's. If you like short decay, these things work miracles. I agree that they sound better w/o though - a la the Far Cry stuff.

Here is two more samples - one with a "higher"/louder snare - maybe too loud, beefed up kick, and some vocal work (maybe a tad loud as well). The other sample, well, it's one big sample (my first attempt at such a thing, and I only have the "stock" gog's for right now ( June was a big upgrade month for my little "studio".

Cool tune, I don't have a whole lot to add, these guys nailed what I heard. Those drums gotta go, guitars are nice, vox could be a little thicker and turned down just a smidge. Or maybe just play a little more with the compression.

I listened to all of them, the 01 was the one I liked the most and what I was referring to.
Sorry, I guess that was pretty vague. :)

was gonna comment, but i'm listening on crap so i gave up but i'll try again later.

what little i could gather was that i liked version 1 best (not post one, but version 1)

OK, one more try with the real drums - made some changes, hopefully it is better. :D

edit - it may be a bit low volumewise - not sure, but maybe.

Man thats a rockin' song.

two thoughts:
1) (your gonna hit me) the vox (imo) are a little low now.
2) Burn that snare.

;)

It's not the snare - it's the micing "technique". The new version is partially sampled, maybe I'll go back and dump the sampling and bump the vox a hair.

I hate to sound negative but I'm trying to be helpful.

THAT SONG ROCKS!

love that git sound, can you brake the chain down for me?

overs still bother, i'd hide them under the gits a little or something, don't like them. more so the crash in the R

yea, vox may be a little low

love thoes gits.

The drummer really likes cymbals eh!
The vox are fine in my opinion. I mean you can hear the words and they aint hidden by any of the other instruments. Quite clear actually. can hear some Brandon Boyd influence (Science), am i right?

Jackson 7 String ---> Fender Cyber Twin Head ---> GR MP-2NV ---> Apogee AD16

I did it all wrong, I know. I am going to do another song by these guys in a month or so, with all my new gear, all in my studio.

Then, I'll have to take all the blame

Here comes the "pat on the back" guy... :D

Very nice sounding guitars. No DI then?

Sorry for hijacking, but how is this done? Do you mean tracked twice, or two outputs (A/B splitter {one DI, one amped})?

D/L cut me off @ 2:00. Damnit... didn't get to hear the solo...
Here we go again, see you in an hour :(
