Wal-Mart at Midnight - Greg_L original crap

I didn't wanna just add EQ to the mix. I used bigger sounds to begin with. I wanted it big, but not muddy. I was listening to the Ramones "Leave Home" album on vinyl last month, and I was like, "yeah, that's the sound I want." So this is what I came up with.

That is such great advice....to focus on getting a good sound right at the beginning/tracking...and probably the thing I don't pay attention to enough(or sometimes at all:o)...So often I rush thru the tracking , thinking I will fix a weak tone/sound in the mix with eq, plugs etc....and end up with sonic soup:drunk:

Great stuff... I almost spit my drink on my computer screen. It does fail the political correct test though. ;)

Then my work here is done. If you can't laugh at others, who can you laugh at?

Thanks for checking it out. :D

Listened to the tweaked snare. Sounds better to my ear. It seemed to fill in the lower end of the mix very well.

such social commentary!!

sounds great to me, I get what PI is saying, does sound different from what ive been listening to yours lately, cant say in a bad way though, still sounds like a Greg_L original...it just struck me, its like moving from the mid 70's to the early 80's in sound quality..I actually listened to bands like Oi Polloi, Conflict, and the Subhumans back then....dont ask why :o

nice, clean, professional job and if I shopped at wal-mart(some of my servants do) Im sure this is how i would experience it lol

great ending

Having followed your predicktable cerebral wit and subtlety down in there the Cave,
I was curious to give your tunage a listen. It does not disappoint. Good energy,
lyrical cynicism, great g. tone and tight as a mouses asshole.

Good job.

Don't hate me because I'm beautiful, hate me because I can soo hear TMBG doing this.:D:D

I'll have to give this a listen in my studio tonight...from my very tired Tannoys in my office, the toms seem to be getting slaughtered by the compression...especially towards the end. The guit and bass tones are sweet...nice job in carving out space for the bass guit....the detail there really pulls through.

I didn't hear the first version of the mix, but the snare seems dead on here.

Sweet tuneage...I dig it.

Thanks dude. I'm trying to change things up a little while still staying within my paper-thin scope of musicality. I like the way this one came out so I'm gonna stay in this mix/production style for a little while.

WTF is TMBG?

Thanks for listening. I don't know what you mean about the toms. They sound pretty okay to me.

definitely gives it a more modern edge....

Funny song Gerg, as always. :D

The vocals have a harsh frequency that is very noticeable. It sounds like that pesky ~4k range. :spank: All of the instruments sounds good. I think the vocals can come down a tiny bit. Other than that, you're all good. I like that 80's style break. Did someone say reverb? :D

They Might Be Giants... just did a cover of one of their tunes. Check that out. :p:D

I had a lot of trouble with the vocals. I think there's something wrong with my mic. They sounded strange after I tracked them and tried to jack em around with EQ.

Thanks for listening.

alright - can't listen to this until I go home tonight.

The lyrics are awesome, but....

What about the 50-something lady who shot up the fleeing SUV of her attackers?

http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/metropolitan/7183286.html

(long live CHL's)

that and all the other parking lot shootings in the area need at least a nod, no?

Lol. I hadn't seen that story. I really will only go to wal-mart late at night. For one, like the song hints at, it's the only time they let the freaks work. Secondly, it's less crowded.

I do love me some wal-mart though. Where else can I buy bread, dress pants, a DVD player, ammo, patio furniture, and a geroge foreman grill all at the same place at the same time? :laughings:

Yeah, this sounds good Greg. Maybe a little more depth at the expense of a little separation? I like the direction you're going though. Good balance - nothing out of place.

I don't get why I see all kinds of mutated types at wal mart (employees and customers)? I mean, I never see these people anywhere but there...where do they go?...where do they come from?

Thanks dude.

I agree about the mutants and weirdos. Wal-Mart is like a sociological study every time you go there. It's fascinating. You can go to Target and see normal, seemingly middle-class average people. Then you go to Wal-Mart and it's like visiting a freakshow.

Dude, You nailed it with those lyrics!

The manager at the Walmart, by me is ...tattooed, lewd, and crude!

Killer track Brotha!

Diggin' it!

Keep 'em comin'!!! I haven't heard that much comedy since Mucky Pup broke up!
Gotta love it!
