Great tune and great playing (as always!). As I listen I find myself wanting to hear more drums, especially the kick.

Great sound. I love it. As I listen, I find it to be rather busy sounding, which is fine.

The cymbals are a bit loud which makes it harder to pay attention to the guitar playing. They seem to get in the way of my picking out all of the instruments, (not that I need to...I'm a musician.) :listeningmusic:

A good mix overall.

You have to know that that is a kick ass track. Great job!

whitestrat

thanks man, glad you like it.

you know i did about 4 mixes of this, vox up, down, drums up, down, and this one got picked.
i guess maybe i favor bass clarity over kick, or maybe i just didn't get the frequencies carved out enough.
i always boost the bass at at certain frequency, and cut the drums..... and vice versa with drums and bass, so that each has a low end peak that doesn't step on the other.
it's hard to dial that in, i'm still working on figuring it out!

thanks for listening and commenting!
well, it's busy i guess, because the guitar rhythm chords are so full, i'm playing some call and response lead on top, and the singing is rolling along, and then there are the bass riffs!
LOL

but, i can't really strip it down anymore than it is, or it just doesn't have that forward momentum that i like for a tune like this.
cymbals, yea..........
it's hard to dial that in...
i want sizzle, but not harsh.... but again, maybe listening to other mixes heavy on the overheads influenced me when i mixed this one, i don't know...
seems i mix per mood, and that changes from project to project.
i'm going back and listen to the high end now.......

thanks for listening...
i thought a few here might enjoy this one, yes......

Impressive piece of work, dude. Love the guitar tone and freaky harmonics ... and the fact that your mix captures them so well.

Great music as always...... Here`s a little trick I learned for a great sizzle on cymbals ...so try it next time you record...If you have a sony erricson cell phone ...probably any cell phone but I used a sony erricson. When doing the drum tracking record it with the phone also ...Import that file from the phone into Sonar and cut everything below 10k so it`s just the obviously distorted cymbals. Create a bus with channel tools with make wider preset on it and slap a stereo delay on it also and adjust till the distortion hits as the regular tracked cymbals are dying out at the far outer edges of the stereo field and you`ll get the best sizzle you`ve ever heard on your Cymbals without introducing harshness to the original cymbals.

A lot of fun to listen to. Your lead work reminds me a bit of Phil Keaggy. I didn't think it was too busy, I like a song that has a lot going on in it as long as it doesn't become a confusion of sounds. To me all the parts where clear and contributed to the forward motion of the song. Great job.

thanks for listening
glad you liked this one
most of the guitars in this mix were captured with a Palmer PDI-09
the solo guitar has a mix of mic and Palmer

thanks for listening...

your suggestion on high end on cymbals sounds...... er........ interesting.
heheh

looking for my cel phone now.......

interesting comment about phil keaggy....

i've known about keaggy since about around The Master and the Musician.....
but i was never really influenced..
and yet, others have mentioned my playing reminding them of keaggy before...

i should listen to more keaggy!
hehehe

i don't think the song is busy either...
full and lots going on, yes, but i try to reign it all into a cohesive thing, all heading in the same direction at the same time.
it's just the way my brain works....
sometimes i like long empty spaces...
and sometimes i don't!
heh

thanks for listening and commenting

I you can find "How the West Was One" that would be a good place hear what we are talking about. It is a live album in which he performs with "A Band Called David" and the "Second Chapter of Acts." Or if you could find one of his early albums when he recorded with "Glass Harp."
