Greetings,

I'm trying to get my PC up and running for mixing/recording. What would be the most important components to upgreade? I would have to say the sound card, then the RAM and then CPU speed?

What do you people think?

What is the best price quality sound card for more than 2 track recording?

BTY my system is as follows: PII 350 w/ 128 meg ram.

What should I upgrade first in order to get going with more than 2 tracks?

Thanks, Dan

do you currently have a sound card? Do you have preamps already? If you do not then you would need a card which has a breakout box containing preamps. If you already have preamps I'd get a Delta44 by M-Audio. Check out http://www.m-audio.com . Also, what is your budget?

I have a sound card that came with my computer and I have home audio pre-amps. Would this work.

My budget... well used, cheep, best price/quality... you know the deal. But I need good sound quility. If I can't get good sound relatively cheap, I'll wait...

What are home audio preamps? If you want to record more than 2 tracks at the same time then you will need a different card/interface. I don't know what you consider cheap though. You can look on ebay for the delta44. Are 4 inputs enough fo you? If not you will spend more.

A PC is really a system, and like any system is only as strong as it's weakest link. So all of the various parts have to be "good enough" in order to work together.

That being said, I would say pick the sound card first, then build the PC arround that.
