waht is an *.mcp format and how to convert

i just spent 2 hours on the web trying to find out what format this is and how to decode it.
dear god! the closest i found was a post someone made 3 years ago about batch conversions from wav/aiff to mcp format on an akia mailing list
akai makes no mention on thier pages about any kind of program or anything.
anyone familiar with this??????
