Hi Folks,
http://www.soundclick.com/util/getplayer.m3u?id=4421331&q=hi
This is the link to version #4 which has some radical & less so changes to it.
Let me know if you twig to the main change & its source.
I've responded to your comments in #3 & have addressed many of the issues raised. I've copied them here to less any to & fro:
Dogman,
There's a significant improvement based on your ideas on the coming upload mate. As a wave file it seems to have a better
RAMI,
That snare sound was actually the result of applying a sonic maximizer to the drum track. 80's certainly weren't my fav era either. That snare in Jack N Dianne by JCMellonhead - talk about construction. Thanks for the + re the wah. It took me a long time to construct that solo as I can't play leads with any natural improvisational flow. I don't have the chops.
Timothy Lawler,
Yeah the verb was trowelled on. I recorded this basic track in 1990 & it does show my niavity re effects. I was considering starting this from scratch but decided to attempt a retrieval. I've refined the panning on the solo but am only playing with it truth be told. Thanks for the direction.
SnakeDog5050,
Terry's been given the task of coming up with a melody & lyrics. I've applied your ideas in the coming upload (version #4). Thanks for the help.
ido1957,
I've added some more defintion on the bass in V#4 but boosting the top end. & cutting the bottom a little. Terry has yet to get back to me. He's traking some leave soon & I hope he'll be able to get inspired after he's rested. Ta.
solo.guitar,
Thanks mate. I used your ideas. the bass ought to be clearer in the next upload.
bigbubba,
Ta mate. I might have a surprise re the drums. Drop in on the next post (v#4). I'll attempt to bring the solo back to the fold. It's sticking out at vocal level at present which is distracting when the vocal isn't there I know. I'll suss out the 2.35 effect. Thanks

You'll let me know if I've been successful I'm sure.
As always I look forward to your suggestions.

Early Sunday mroning here so I have the headphones cranked listening to version #4.

The drums sound really nice in this version. Clear and snappy with presence i.e. not a lot of verb. Is this Roland playing on this cut? Impressive rolls and crashes.

The bass is now prominently positioned where I like it. It has great definition. I can hear the slides you're doing - couldn't hear them as clearly before.

The guitar still has that great sound and flow. The reverb is still noticeable as it places the guitar slightly back of the mix. I wonder if a smidge more volume would fix that up....possibly. It does sit very nicely in the mix now though.....

I believe this mix is pretty much ready for the vocals. There may be necessary tweaking when they are added which is to be expected......

Nice ending with the cymbals, BTW.......

:) :D :) :D

Much better man..the bass has a great punch to it, and is seperated from the drums well. I agree with ido that the guitar could probably use a lisght volume increase...just a db or 2. It should have plenty of space, so nudge it up a little and see what happens.

I really like how this is sounding though...you got most of the nits fixed. Excellent bass playing. Very clean lines. :)

Really like the bass on this, guitar style kinda reminds me of U2's Edge without the delay...cool sound for sure.I'm a sucker for wah so I dig it on this, cool tone.Sounds Like a cool tune man!

ido1957,
The drums are courtesy of this forum's very own Mr.Fixit - better known as RAMI. He did a splendid job despite my incompetence. The rolls & crashes punctuate precisely & his cymbal gliss at the end is inspired. I'll push the guitars forward an itsy bitsy bit. Thanks for the detail as usual. When can we expect another one of your tunes? I played my disc of your tracks twice last night. What is that trade mark shimmer you use on guitar?
Dogman,
Thanks for the positive comments mate. I'll push the guitars up a little. The bass does have a little "j'n'c'est qua" now thanks to everyone's suggestions.
variaxman,
I know what you mean about the Edge's rhythm. I hadn't heard U2 until I started courting my missus & that was a few years before I recorded this so influence is quite possible. Thanks for the comments re the wah. It's a Jimi Cry Baby with a heap of effects going on before hitting the pedal.

Cool man, bass sounds good and it sounds like the rhythm has a little more bite in there, I like this... the song has good potential and I look forward to hearing it with vox

Ray, I didn't understand by your first post that you had my drum track on this one. I just listened. You mixed them in just right I find. Funny, I put alot of reverb on my drums when I sent you the file, I thought maybe even too much. But it seems to blend in ok with everything else. Can't wait to hear thing one finished.

RAMI,
I was being cryptic & didn't want to put you in it if you were less than impressed with my mix.
I just had a listen to the drum tracks solo & they have some reverb on them but not a lot by my overkill standards. I think you selected an excellent amount to blend with the songs generally verb'd state. As usual you really rock the thing along. A thousands thanks yous cobber.
SnakeDog5050,
Thanks mate. I'm hanging on Terry gettin' something together too. Thanks for your kind words.

RAY/RAMI - thought the drums sounded extra good - fooled me there. :o

I'll be posting another of Mike's mixes from our three-piece endeavour shortly for your critiques. Mike is also trying to find time to remix the last one based on the feedback, but he's been busy ;)

On the tracks you have, one of the following or a bit of all combined:
1) 80's Kramer Pacer (Schallers or Seymour Duncan pickups  )
2) Roland GP-8 using mild Comp/EQ/Delay patch
3) Lexicon Digital Effects Processor on mixdown

Mike's mixes use Roland SE-50 effects processor.

:) :D :) :D
