Hi Folks,
There was a problem with The 1st syllable of the melody & a cymbal crash so I sorted that & while I was at it applied a little extra psychotic potential to the solo.
This is from my Private Mix folder - so the vox are a little lower than is generally preferred but the rest is pretty much as you determined.
Listen & comment as you see fit.

Vocals still sound really nice man...and I think the guitar and bass mix is very even. Drums seem fine to me. No real nits on my end...it's sounding pretty good. Drums and bass play well off each other. I like it man....

Hey Ray - are you all done with your vacation now? Is you studio pretty much back to normal? This mix sounds good. The vocals are riding a bit low but that's just my preference - like they are just on the edge. But I can still make out the lyrics so it's all good. And that kind of vocal treatment is very popular on many albums. Bass, guitars and drums sitting nicely also.

I see you have a new tune up Oceanic Cafe ;) I'll look for that thread....

Dogman,
Thanks mate. I know it's not the consensus mix preference - & I'll keep that one as I'd be a mug to dump a crowd pleaser - but I like mine a little rarer.
Gerry,
Tommorrow is the last Friday of the break. The builders/repaireres decided to take the 2 weeks off with their kids so virtually no work has been done. I abondoned my studio for a fortnight for no reason & wow, did I go through withdrawl. I know, my vox pref is for a bit of entombment & your an exhumist. I mainly put this up as it was the mix where I finally remembered to deal with the clash of 1st syllable & cymbal crash. That & the slightly gnarlier effect on he solo. Thanks for listening & commenting.

I am listening right now and I gotta say...this is one of my favorites already. The style, the axe tone and style, the vocals, the beat...it rocks...I love it!!!

I have been listening to this a lot. This was a favorite from the moment I clicked play. I mean the the very second it started to play, it had a place in my heart and on my hard drive... :D

Intro great and immediately the chosen beat and tone of the drums grab hold.

Drums have a moving beat. Rami, you are truely a drummer who can set emotion in motion. Is that the ride you are hitting at the top, for that cowbell effect? Love it. The high-hat is just the right volume and tone is awesome on it. I have heard that tone on the snare many times before and it is probably the most loved tone for a snare, I have ever heard. I wish I could get that on my snare. The rolls and kick are so well timed. I don't think there could be a more perfect beat or more perfect playing for this song. Outro cymbal is the finishing touch !!! As you can tell, I am well taken by the drums in the song.

The drums have such a natural flow and feel to them. Very smooth and easy, yet an energy flow that envelops the song with a power of it's own.

I am not sure why this song affects me the way it does. I am all caught up in the depths of it. I can hear each instrument and the vox in fine detail and what they contribute to the tune singularly, yet hearing the combination of those instruments and vox at the same time. I don't think I have yet to do that before while listening in the clinic. That audio aspect of the song is because of the mixing techniques.

rayc, you have done an excellent job with the drums in the mix. I wouldn't change a thing with any of the volume or placement in the mix or compression or any of that stuff. I would leave it as is. It is one hell of a mix, in my opinion. The song has that raw, live feel to it that I love!! To me, there is no polished, perfected song that touches the soul, so much as that raw emotion and simpleness.

I must wait to comment on the other instruments and vox. I am so overwhelmed at the moment. I do believe you nailed the mix on this one matey!!!

I really love this song!!

lbanks,
Thanks mate. I appreciate your tick.
jpw23,
Ta muchly! Yeah the vox are at a level I like personally rather than where ost folk like them. This is a mix I've reserved for my Private Mix bag.
true-eurt,
I'm blushing as I type. Thanyou very much. Rami's a marvel isn't he! Recording artist, song writer, arranger multi-instrumentalist, internet based session player & total loon - in the best possible way of course. Oh, & BLOODY ACE DRUMMER!
I'm glad you like the song & results of recording. It's amazing that it took Terry 16+ years to get around to writing a melody & lyrics but the wait was worth it.

I think I heard a version of this one before. Nice melodies, you sing it well. Good song

Dude, this sounds real nice. The real drums make so much difference. And they match the mood oh so snugly. :D Alright, enough wordsmithing.

One thing I notice in the beginning of the song was that weren't enough mids coming thru. But once the song had started it was sounding just fine. Just saying what I experienced. Maybe not be an issue with any other listeners. :)

Nice nice sound, I remember you posting this before the vox were in. This really came along nice. The song just has a engaging vibe and the chorus has a dramatic feel. Good job, no nits from me, I too was thinking the vox were a bit low when it started, but I got used to it pretty quick. Nice ending too

I agree with what others said this certainly came a long way since the first version I heard. Drums sound great. Seems like this one has alot of space (if that makes sense) just seems really open/wide. I really like it. I've had that main guitar riff stuck in my head several times now. Im a big fan of those one. Once in awhile (on headphones, so ya know) I get a little bit of sibilance (sp?) Ovearll i can't really think of anything to pick at. Again really like it.

Take care

Gary

Ray - try slapping a kick drum behind that cymbal hit going into the first verse.

Tambourine adds quite a bit to the song. Good lyrics, as always... Sweet.

A slight return

Bulls Hit,
Thanks. Terry'll be redoing the vocal - the one currently is just an MP3 guide - there shouldn't be too much diff except the pronounciation of hunger late in &c.
bigbubba,
lack of mids is a result of having to treat the MP3 vocal as it had a fair bit of music bleed in it. I'll ensure the mids are then when it's completed. Thanks.
SnakeDog5050,
The RAMI drums really lifted thsi. thans for the genreous comments.
gbav,
The sib would be from the motown enhancer. Once I have a final vocal to insert that doesn't require a band cut filter I'll have less top end boost in the motown to worry about. Thanks.
Supercreep,
Do you mean the crash just before the vocals begin? Thanks for the comments. I was riding my motorcycle to work yesterday singing one of your songs mate. Almost got distracted & stacked. Dangerously good tunes you fellows put together on that album.

Above is a link to another slight alteration of the song. I've extended the solo to fill in a couple of oddly empty bars between the end of the solo & the beginning of the chorus.
It is, essentially, the tail of the solo reversed.DOES IT WORK? If it doesn't I'll dump it.
I'll have to get into my little studio to do the bass drum bit - currently it's in chaos due to termite damage repairs - I was able to do the solo diddle on the upstairs online comp.

That extended solo works ok. Sounds like a bit of Hendrix there.... Hope your repairs are going well and you get back into your studio soon - withdrawal can be rough :D

i thought the vocals and the solo were a bit low, but that's my preference.

good tune.

Wou, RayC!
I remember your third Wah-mix and now I when listen this one I became speechless.
I am so impressed. (I never experienced my mixes improve so drastically from raw mix to finale stage.)
What an improvement!
Still, Vox and solo could be a little louder.
If I were you I would experiment with another rhythm guitar sound. (Acoustic maybe) but I don’t say this one was bad.
WELL DONE.

Sounds good.
Could do with some mastering to touch up the overall EQ IMO but nice mix.

I really can't pick anything out. Rayc you're at a really high level! ;)
