VTB1 + SPB1. Is this a good choice for me?

I wish to record solo acoustic guitar/vocal, in mono.

I already have a Studio Projects B1 mic, and I'm happy with the sound quality.

Will the addition of the Studio Projects VTB1 preamp make an appreciable difference to the sound quality? My goal is to get a "clear, natural, warm, acoustic" sound; or as close as I can get (with this cheap equipment).

I'd be very appreciative of comments from those who have used the combination of the VTB1 preamp and the SPB1 mic.

Thank you.

i don't have a b1, but i do have the vtb-1, and i like it. for what you're looking for, in the budget range, i'd say go for it. i like the dmp3 better, but more for instruments (it's very clean and clear). i use my vtb-1 for vox, and really like it for its range of color. the warm/clean factor is variable with it, but the "cleanliness" of the dmp3 is better than that of the vtb-1, but there's no room for warmth in the dmp3. if i'm reading your question correctly, it sounds to me like you want the sp pre.

I used to have a VTB1 and liked it. I have a DMP3 at the mo which I like even more.
It is a cleaner pre.

I also have a B1 which again is a very nice mic. It is quite a bright mic so I wouldn't necessarily recommend it as a vocal mic?

What style of music are you recording and how would you describe your voice?

I'm very happy with the B1 mic, on both my vocals and acoustic guitar.

Because I'm quite happy with this mic, my question really is, "will the 'addition' of the VTB1 give me 'noticeable' improvement to an already quite good sound?". I'm not experienced with using mic preamps.

Right now I'm using a B1 mic plugged directly into a Fostex VF80 digital recorder, and I really like the quality of tone I'm able to get with this simple setup. I'm thinking about adding the VTB1 into the signal chain.
