Isn't that the name of Digitech's pre-amp? Yep I just checked, it's the Digitech VTP-1.
Maybe the PMI pre should be called the ME2 instead

Isn't that the name of Digitech's pre-amp? Yep I just checked, it's the Digitech VTP-1.
Maybe the PMI pre should be called the ME2 instead

We named the VT-1 well over a year ago, so I have no idea what will happen there. It just took us so long to get the pre the way I wanted. There were many design changes to make it better, but at some point, you have to stop.
In addition, I tried to make it here in the States, but the labor was too much, and setting up a production facility just did not make sense for me now. Maybe later when the Toft Audio stuff starts shipping, but it is the VT-1 unless we or they run into those dreaded "legal" issues.
So, there you have it...Dooh!

DW Fearn VT-1 goes back to 1993. Ask your legal guys, but that could be actionable. From what I've heard about Neumann's legal dept, I certainly wouldn't sell the Bear U-87 mic, no mater how obviously different the product. Couldn't tell you if Doug Fearn would pursue this.

This whole thread is cracking me up. Alan, you just can't win for losing with some folks. In one set of threads you have some users who are about to deify you, in other threads (like this one) they are breaking out the tar and feathers.
Sometimes when you walk that thin line you slip. I've slipped myself here and there. A hot bath will get most of the tar and feathers off. The rest will wear off in time

In case it wasn't clear, I wasn't suggesting it would be good if Alan and Co. were sued, I was just giving a friendly warning of a product of the same category (mic preamp with vacuum tube(s)) with the same model designation (VT-1) by a different manufacturer (DW Fearn), and that caution might be advisable before sending it to market with that designation. I hope the preamp is great because I'm basically a cheapskate, even though I try to be a connoisseur with my whino budget.

Let's see, the name "VT-1" has been used by BOSS, Roland, Marshall, ECS, the US Army, US Navy, Century Test Equipment, DKG Machine Parts, Nu-Vu, Heathkit, and NHT, among others, in addition to D. W. Fearn and Studio Projects. And those are just the ones that turned up in a one-tenth second Google search.
What was the point of this thread? The Fearn looks great.

Cool. I've noticed that the guys at Mercenary Audio are a good filter in the often confusing world of pro audio, although most of their stuff is priced beyond my means. Their inclusion of a product (regardless of price) is an endorsement, not just an entry on a line card. When they carry something like the Really Nice Compressor for $175, you know it has to be a standout, even though at that price it seems too good to be true. That they stock a huge line of D. W. Fearn products says a lot for Fearn's quality.
