Returned from the dead
Do any of you know of any vst-i packs? Like bells, pianos, guitars, basses... so on and so forth.

It's not that important, I'd just like to have them. Right now I only have one VST-i and just the access to something more would be nice. Anyone have ANY suggestions?

If you mean free ones, I haven't a clue {KCearl is your man, there} but if you mean a commercially available one, Sampletank is the best one I've come across. That and Sonik synth. They've got good sounds, well tweakable and some of them are truly realistic, others not quite so. There are other specific ones like Swar systems, which is Indian instruments, Celtic instruments, which is kind of folky stuff, Danny Thompson's double bass, Miroslav philharmonik, which is a cool orchestral VSTi.
It kind of depends on the kind of music you make and how open you are to weird sounds. But there's plenty of VSTis out there. I prefer to use real instruments where I can but VSTis have been marvelous for me. I know that if I can't get one of my friends to do a piece for me, I've got the option of hundreds of instruments at my disposal. It's like having a player of almost every instrument on earth living in my cupboards......

I use thing called SFZ, which you can imbed MIDI soundfonts into. There are some pretty decent soundfonts out there if you spend some time looking around. I've found and used some resonably decent orchestral sounds.

You can find SFZ at KVRaudio.com, and SF2MIDI.com has heaps of soundfonts.

download the free kontakt player from NI, on the same website they also have a massive free library, then go to pettin house (http://www.pettinhouse.com/html/download.html) and download the kontakt stuff from there and just drop it in the folder for the kontakt library, cool drums from pettinhouse btw...if there are any specific samples you are looking for let me know..

for synths these are as good as bought...seriously

and here (check the anolog warfare synths)

for mangling effects for those synths, and more synths

and for electronic drum samples (which are also included above) try

sorry they are mostly electronica based

When I was using Mixcraft, it came with a whole library of VSTi/samples... There were bells, sound FX like claps/gun shots/footsteps, xylophones, upright basses, guitars, bass guitars, choirs, so on and so forth.... But it seems that you can only access those when in mixcraft. For example, if I just copied the plug in files from mixcraft and put them in my reaper VST folder, they won't work

I really wish I had access to them via reaper, but I can't seem to find anything like the plugins on the net. :(

hey I like how you imply the Scotsman knows the freebies because he's too tight to buy things

racist!! :D

Your ability to ferret out the freebies are the stuff of legend and one of your most endearing features !

I've always dug the Scots, right back to 1966. Do you know, to this day I've never heard anyone say "Och aye, the noo" ! Or for that matter speak cockney rhyming slang. Or say "Boyo" or "Begorrah" !

Back on topic, your VSTi resourcefulness is a resource in itself.

damn EastWest had a brilliant Orchestra freebie called play but the offer expired back in January..Ill see if I can find my copy and you can register it as I got that basic stuff with sonar...the effects are a little wet but in a mix theyre fine..

but do download the kontakt and pettinhouse stuff...you'll fine quite a bit in there that covers some of what you're asking
