VST realtime? busses?

yup, here comes another good one guys...

i'm having a hard time understanding how to use a guitar vsti in cubase 5 or cep, acid, i can't get it to work in (i guess) real time, while i'm playing the guitar, it only works on pre made samples, or after the fact sorta deal, huge latency delay, for me anyway...

all i get from a web search is (sell, sell, sell me this or that") excuse please...

i did get a small hint that the ASIO driver and the busses have something to do with it...

if anyone has a few links on the subject that would be fine also...

your help is greatly appreciated, thanks...

WIth older MME drivers, soundcards are simply not capable of running a VSTi in real-time (that is, as you record) -- the latency in response, as you've noticed, is unworkably long.

Enter ASIO drivers (assuming your soundcard has them). These should allow your soundcard to perform with a low enough latency that you can hear the effect in real-time, as you record.

I don't think busses have anything to do with performance, just signal routing.

thanks,

i'll look into your suggestion....
