I've got a ton of new VSTs for CW (thanks to a few recent threads), never really played too much with anything that didn't come already in CW. There are some really nice plugs out there but they are eating up resources like CRAZY! So much that I can't use one on each track of a 16 track song without it dropping out. I have a decent PC 2.8g CPU, 2G RAM, 160G HD blah blah blah, is this normal when trying to run 234234 third party plugs or is something not quite right with my system?

Should I tweak one at a time and bounce the track and delete the other? (so I can benefit from the sounds of the plugs but not actually run them at the same time)

Some plugs take more power to run than others. You should probably check and make sure cpu is tweaked properly. There's a few places on the net that will tell you what to do. Make sure nothing else is running in the background as well like virus protection or whatever.

Freeze or Lock option?

Does your version of Cakewalk have the "freeze" effects option?

If yes, use it and disable the effects to free up CPU.

I have a similar system spec'd system except far less RAM, sometimes use lots of plugs and I rarely go above 45% CPU utilization.

Also helps to optimize your PC for music if you have not done so already.

Could you ellaborate on "tweaked properly?" Thanks for the reply!

Try this link. http://www.pcmus.com/TweakXP.htm

I agree with the freeze function as stated above to. Also, if you have a way that you can permantely print the effects to the tracks that would help because you wouldn't have to run the effect. But I'd only do that if you were completely sure that's how you want the track.
