Ok I have a few problems. I am a hobby music maker and bought Ejay Studio as it was cheap and says it supports VST 2.0.

Ok I get some VST plugins working but not anything like GAk Sor Alpha (which Im assuming is a VST "instrument" and behaves differently from a VST plug in (ie an effects module).

So As I had litle luck with that as I want to use a VST software synth(also tried VST- DX wrapper to help) instead of usual boring Midi sounds. So I 'm thinking of getting some more powerful software like:

MAGIX music studio- Well the demo is ok have put all my VST .dll's
in the VST folder and guess what not all of them work. Also Cannot see how to use soundfonts.

Cubae VST - Nice software but a little complicated and way out of my price range. Got all the VST plugins and instruments loaded but can't work out how you load sound fonts or use VST synths. Checked the tutrorial and I'm doing it all as directed just get no sound from the VST synth and Can't change the midi pathch - stuck with grand piano.

So Basically I want to record with a Midi/Audio sequencer that allows me to use VST plugins and instruments but also sound fonts.

Any help is more than welcome.

Cheers
Rikster.

I think Cubase is your best bet. You might look into Cubasis (the trimmed-down version for much cheaper) to see if it has all the features you need (and not bells and whistles you don't). To my knowlege, the only other multi-track program that supports VST plugins & instruments (other than Wavelab 3 which has some multi-track recording functions, but I'm not sure about MIDI.) is Logic Audio, which has a steep learning curve, and is also expensive.

Cakewalk Sonar and Logic Audio have their own virtual instrument formats, but VST has the most available by far. You can, however use a wrapper, like you said to get the best of both worlds. Beware, however, the wrappers don't always work very well.

Now that I've globbed this information together, seemingly with no semblence of order whatsoever, I'd suggest to just check out Cubasis first, then go from there.

Thanks for the advice.

Uninstalled reset and reinstalled. Working reasonably well now with Magix music studio, and version 7 has just been released so I may give that a try.

The upshot is I dont think my PC is quite up to it so Im thinking of up grading anyway.

Thanks
