I am new to Cubase, so please bare with me.

I am using Cubase 5 on a PC running Windows XP. I've just bought a Lexicon Alpha to record some of my guitar ideas. I have connected it and set Cubase to recognise it's drivers in the ASIO setting.

As the Lexicon Alpha records in mono I have set the input audio bus to mono in the VST Connections, then I set the input option on the audio track to that bus and everything records fine.

Right, now comes my question. Every time I add a new audio track Cubase will not recognise the guitar. I have found that if I add a new mono audio bus in the VST Connection it then picks up the guitar. Surely I do not have to add a new bus to every track I add? Does anyone know what I am doing wrong, or is this the correct way of adding tracks?

Also, is there a way of setting the bus to default on mono, so when I open a new project in Cubase I do not have to set the audio bus?

Get your buses setup the way you want, then save as template. Next time you start a project, open the template, your VST connections will be the same.

You should be able to select one bus as an input on multiple tracks. When you add a new track what does it show as the input?

I have to set up my busses before I record????? NOOOOOOOO

But seriously, yes.

Jimmy already alluded to the answer: templates. Make em. Use em. Love em. You can add a preset to the VST connections page, too. That's what I usually do.

Cheers :)

Total noob question, but when you save a template, where do they go? :wtf:
Also, how do I open a saved one? I can't seem to find them anywhere and there's no "browse folders" option.

If memory serves me well C/program files/cubase version / templates
And when you open a new project the template should appear in the drop down menu and choose the one you set up .

Yep, find them in the 'More' options when you open Cubase. I am finishing a project for a friend, that I use a template for his songs. Saves me having to reset everything. Drum groups, triggers, effects, are already loaded for each tune.

Thanks guys! I made a template a little while back with all my typical busses but just didn't know where to find it. I see it now.
