I just bought the Roland VS-1880 the upgraded version of the VS-1680 and the two VS8F-2 effects cards. My question is simple,I hope. How do I preview the effects through my monitor speakers without actually recording any thing?

if you just want to hear the effects before you record them put them on the playback side of the track. i have the 1680 and im assuming its almost identical to the 1880. there are 3 buttons above every fader the middle one is the playback track. push it so it lights up and put the effect on there. this will allow you to hear and edit the effect without recording it. hope this helps

Or you could record while listening to the effect, and end up with a dry track if you make sure the effect is not inserted before the recording process.
