VSampler 3 or Kontakt?

I'm thinkin' quite hard which one!
Tell me your opinion, please!
a) should I get Sonar 3 Sudio and
NI Kompakt (simple sample player,
good soundset, poor editing but
can convert the most popular filetypes;
Akai,Giga,SF2,EXS24)
b) or should I get full Sonar 3 Producer
with VSampler( complete sample editing
can convert many filetypes, lighter
included soundset)
All this because upgrade price from
Sonar 2 to sonar 3 PE is so ridiculous
high in my country; 345 eur than in
USA you get it at 229 USD!
Sonar 3 SE is 150 eur + Kompakt is
165 eur = 315 eur!
This is so difficult to decide becauseI really like Kompakt, but otherhand
VSampler3 is full sampler!

Addition:

I downloaded VSampler 3.03 demo
yesterday and tested it all night.
Whoah, this is complicated beast!
Yes, in good and bad; it´s utterly
versatile and capable but surely
takes much time to get inside of it.
It played soundfonts very nicely,
includin filters and all stuff other
players are ignoring; this is sure
one of the best SF2 players!
Simple Giga files were Ok, but it
didn´t played keyswitched Gigas at all
and I got feeling it didn´t sound as
good Gigastudio! I tried to import
some wavs to and make simple instrument;
it managed to loop samples very nicely!
There is nice fx too, but I don't
understand why not send effects too,
only inserts?
So, which one?
This is gettin' harder and harder!

I upgraded to Sonar 3 simply because of Vsampler. The upgrade price was cheaper than buying Vsampler outright. If all you really want is Vsampler, then forget about Sonar3, and just get Vsampler, it's worth the money.

I think I 'll take Kompakt!

Yes, Kompakt with Sonar Studio Edition!
I already have Utrafunk Sonitus pack, so only thing I lose
is full Pantheon (which is shame) and VS3 + channel EQ(shame)!

Is Lexicon Pantheon SE sounding as good as full Pantheon?
Is it only with less parameters and presets?

It's been long coming with VS3 but I still think it's not
mature enough!
I don't like it's presets managing, loading wth some old vs2 format
or SF is missing some velocities, pad locked or pad unlocked not
working properly (when it's locked still changing sounds),
millions of screens but not yet proper manual, channel/instr/zone
fx but why not send fx?, inproper giga converting and no disk streaming yet!

Kompakt is good and easy + included soundset is brilliant!

VSampler that comes with Sonar is DXi only. It will only run in Sonar and is not the full standalone application.

I don't know if this is important to you and your workflow.

The Pantheon SE is the same beast with less patches and ability to configure the reverb. Either way it does not have the same clarity of definition as the hardware and has a very distinct colour.

I am not a great user of samplers but do find it cludgy compared to say the NN-XT module of Reason. Other users have reported user interface issues with it in this and the Cakewalk NG and forum.

So said, all samplers are hard to learn and use different approaches.

Other reports also say that it does have problems importing Gigasampler libraries. Other people then say that the Giga format is complex and nothing but Gigasampler itself will play properly with the file format.

It sounds like you have already decided on Kompakt. If you like it after having tried it, then go for it.

After all if it sucks, then you can always return it and crossgrade from SE to PE => (I guess............)

Yes, but they let you upgrade to the full version for $50. Can Kontact match that? ;)

one thing to note is that kontakt really doesn't work very well as a dxi. at least it doesn't for me. crashes my os and stuff. i needed a vst wrapper before it would really work well. so factor that into your purchase price also.

I have Kompakt and have had no problems.Importing Giga has been seamless and the soundset that comes with it is great.
You can run it as a DXI or standalone.
Much easier to use than Giga along with Sonar.

Yes, acidrock, that sounds good!
I got Kompakt but haven´t installed yet!
Too bad that I have heard that Kompakt can't import Gigasamples
properly, but i hope easier Gigas go well but keyswithced ones will have problems
(VSampler 3 cannot import keyswitched Gigas, there was no sound at all!)
Well, I have to test it today myself!

Kompakt soundset is very good indeed, very detailed all-around set
from famous sample suppliers; Zero-G, Eastwest,Sonic Implants.
I think that NI have made very good work with soundset;
brasses are good, nice strings from reputated Eastwest Ultimate Strings
collection, nice choirs from QL Voice of the Apocalypse!
Good stuff without any fillers!
