In case you haven't already done so,you can read an English language description of the VS-890 on the Roland Canada website while admiring the color picture of it.I've had a VS-880EX since 12/98 and my current feeling is that I'm going to stick with it until the generation after this coming product.I personally am sick of new products coming out 2 weeks after I've finally mastered the operation of the one I already have. If,however you are considering a 1st purchase, know that the 890 has 24 bit ada converters and a compessed 24 bit recording mode (aka "VSR") and the CD Write button that also appears on the 1880.If you're patient, you'll be able to get a VS880EX cheaper soon than you would this week.My guess is that Roland will "launch" the 890 at the summer NAMM for the US market (it's already out in several countries)Cheers!

Yup I am waiting for the 880's to drop like rocks then I will snag one. Then again I may just get a 1680.

Yeah, I will likely wait for a while. I've had my EX since Oct '98, and I am quite happy with it. The thing is, if Roland is gonna announce the 890 at NAMM, then it is likely that the 890 will not ship for a few months anyway.

I've also heard that the price of the 890 is around $300-400.00 less than the 880 EX. That is gonna drive down the price of the EX's but fast. One thing I am disappointed about, though: Roland didn't see fit to give the 890 the extra Mastering Trax. This pisses me off. It seems that they'll reserve all the really useful goodies for their flagship units.

Still, the 1880 is cheaper than the 1680, and that will drive the price of those down too. So, maybe a 16 track machine will be in my future!

I had the VS880 for 3 years. It was to be a constant software updateable unit. That was good until the VS880EX came out. Gee we don't make anything for it anymore......So I bought the VS1680. Incredible machine. Software updateable.......Now the VS1880...
I'm not so sure all manufacturers are that misleading. Still, the sound is 24Bit. but has to be dithered to 16Bit for CD's anyway. Hell it's own converters are 20bit. (In the VS1680.)
For a $600.00 savings, I can live without purple. Yeah I know....."but it's 18 tracks while tracking not just at mixdown." It has 256 virtual for @#$% sake. Are we creaters or gear heads?
