What mixer are you using?

Do you have the ADAT cables plugged in?

Do you have the Sync (BNC) cables hooked up?

I'm using a tascam TM D1000 mixer i have the optical cables going into a converter box for the tascam and the bnc cable also going into there,

Can you record into the VR800?
Are you having problems going into and coming out of the VR800.
Did you set the sync on both units?

i can see that i am recording into the vr800 and when i hit play on the vr800 i dont get anything. I have the word sync cable going from the vr800 into the converter box but i think i need to go from the mixer to the converter box. and i believe i have them both set correctly

Sounds like everything is right....one "Do Dah" question.
When you hit play after recording....do the bars in the track on the VR800 indicationg that there is signal?

If "No" then make sure you're in record mode...
the red light under the track will flash when in stand by....but changes to solid red when recording.
Are you sure you're in the correct place on the tape.....
ABS/MTC or Bar count.

If the ther is movement in the bars when you hit play then make sure your mixer is configured correctly.

ok i do have bars when i record and also when i press play, now when you say (Are you sure you're in the correct place on the tape.....
ABS/MTC or Bar count. )
are you talking about the vr800 and how should it be set ? oh.. and i really apreciate all your help you can see im new to this

Well if the bars are moving then you are in the correct place and should be hearing something.
There are three ways to measure where you are at (tape counter) ABS absolute, MTC Midi time code and Bar/beat
When you set up the VR you choose...

I suspect the problem is in the Tascam....Digital Boards
are layered and not easy to see. There's usually a button that changes from the function of the faders...
and also there's usually a menu for routing the signal...
It is very easy to get lost in that....not like old analog boards where everything is in front of you and visable.
I'm not familar with the Tascam board. But I suspect there's a button someplace that's not pushed.
See if you can configure the board to montitor the return
from the VR in the meters....

Good Luck

Terry

ok it looks like its a routing problem on the mixer i will look into it...
