well, I have 2 questions...

1. My favorite group is Orgy. Producer Josh Abraham is brilliant, and vocalist Jay Gordon has the perfect voice. My question is: How can you add effects to get your voice to have a very high mid/treble sound to it but also have alot of body to it. I dont want it to sound mettalic and whispy. Just clear, sharp, and full. Im using Cool Edit btw.

2. Along the same line...How do you acheive that wide range guitar sound. Whenever I record my electric guitar it sounds very limited. It just doesnt have that full massive sound that i want to get. Ive heard about double recording, but im not sure what that is exactly or how that would help any. advice?

thanks..

double tracking...

recording one take of the rhythm guitar part, pan is hard left, record another, same tone, pan right. result, double tracked guitar.

on a double tracksed guitar, id go with 2 different tones, maybe even 2 different amps/guitars.....or go alaVanHalen and do the dry guitar left and effects right.....

if we're talkin about rhythm guitars, i have the same tone on either side to keep it balanced, then i might have the guitarist experiment with different tones on each side.

As for Jay's vocals, try this:

Double track the vocals as such-->let's say you record vocals on track 1. Now run the track 1 vocals through an effects unit with some SLIGHT (be easy on the amount) room reverb with a fast to moderate decay time. Record this to track 2. Now you have two vocal tracks. When mixing, make the track 1 vocals at a higher level than track 2 vocals and add a different type of room reverb to both of them (again, slight amount...cuz track 2 already has some room reverb on it). Don't pan these tracks, keep them center and you should have a very full sounding Jay from orgy type sound.

good luck.

thanks for the info. that helps alot.

fenix, i did what you said really quickly to test it out and it is perfect.

the guitar thing sounds good too.

thanks.
