I am having problems getting a strong signal out of my mixer. I have a shure SM58 mic plugged into a Eurorack UBB 1002 mixer. With the faders at a normal setting (around 7-8) and the gain turned up to about 70% I can only register one light (about 20%) on the meter. If I boost the faders and gain all the way up, I can get a strong signal out of the mixer, but it is still weak into the PC.

Any thoughts?

What's the rest of the chain? Interface? Converters?

Otherwise, set EVERYTHING at unity on the mixer (on the active channel and the master matrix). All volume faders, the master output, etc. Set the level with the pre-gain. If the output is right, something else is wrong (which is why we'd need to address the rest of the input chain).

yeah...what are you plugged into on your computer...if its your line in..what is the record level at?

thanks

After a little more research, I think my problem is that the type of mic I am using needs to be pre-amped. I confused pre-amping and phantom power and didn't shop very well.

Thanks all!

Your unit has:

2 new state-of-the-art, studio-grade IMP “Invisible” Mic Preamps with:

130 dB dynamic range for 24-bit, 192 kHz sampling rate inputs
Ultra-wide 60 dB gain range
Lowest possible distortion 0.0007% (20 Hz - 20 kHz)

I think those ShureSM58's and 57's need a fair boost to be brought up. Does your mixer have software or anything with the option of giving a 12db boost?

I know that with my sc and CADm179 mic I need the gain on at LEAST 7 on the sc panel, with the 12db boost checked on the software. (Mind you this is all for recording acoustic guitar most the time...not massive loud sources like amps or drums or anything.)

My mixer has no software. It channels to the computer through an Eridol UA-1ex audio interface. However, in both Audacity preferences and in the XP control panel I am unable to adjust the recording volume.
