Volume problem with Behringer

Hey peeps.
I bought home my pair of Behringer B2031's and started connecting them to my player. Once they were both connected, i started playing the music through them but couldn't adjust the volume. The sound coming out of the speakers was fixed no matter how much i turned the volume up of down on the player.
Does anyone know why this is and how to solve this problem.

What sort of player?

If you have the speakers connected to a line out, there's a good chance that the line out is independent of any volume control.
