Volume mystery

I have recorded 8 contiguous items (bars) on acoustic guitar (musically error-free). Rather than continuing recording I copied the original 8 bars to the next 8 bars on the same track (now have 16 contiguous bars). However, the volume on the copied 8 bars is lower than on the original 8 bars. I have double/treble checked and copied the original 8 bars a number of time, but with the same result. How can the copied bars have a lower volume than the original. (I have not moved the volume controls in any way). The track is panned hard left. Many thanks, Brian

I dunno. I did a quick copy/paste similar to your description and did not have this problem. Waveforms and volumes were duplicated with no changes.

Since I don't have the same Item(s) as your setup, I simply copied a single Item and pasted it to the end of that Item. I did not glue them into one single item. No changes were observed.

Are your 8 contiguous items 8 individual items, or have they been glued into a single item?

Can you post a pic of the point where the original 8 meet the copied 8 ?

I had a similar thing happen once with a drum track. Every time I pasted a series of sequences, it would get lower in volume. I never found out what was causing it, and it hasn't happened in any of my other tracks. I figured there was something that I wasn't seeing or paying attention to in the settings for those segments.

You could normalize the section you want to copy, then normalize each one you paste and you should come back with an even volume. It might also tell you exactly how many dB it is dropping and if successive pastes from the same copy function are equal or changing.

Copy the tracks to a different different bar and then delete the track that lowers volume as you copy - reboot your computer - does it do it now?

probably have a duplicate underneath the original. so its increasing the volume on the first 8 bars?

My items were 4 lots of 2 bars each which I had glued together and copied/pasted. This had worked fine with other tracks. I have attached the screenshot as requested. This was a most unusual occurrence (and I can see that others encountered the problem also on occasion).
I have now copied/pasted the original 8 bars to another track and everything is now fine.

FYI: In copying/pasting this time I noticed that the "gluing" worked in only one direction i.e. when I tried to glue from, say, track 1 to track 10 it did not work. However, when I glued from track 10 to track 1 it did work !!

Many thanks to all who responded. Brian

Well, this isn't what I was expecting to see. So that blows my first guess out of the water :laughings:
