I recently won an auction for the Focusrite Voicemaster Pro with Blue Bluebird microphone on ebay for $600. I have 2 digi 002 mixer units. I am wondering how much better is this pre than the ones in my Digi 002?I know they are both focusrite. How's the comp/eq? Is the mic any good and if so what would you use it on. I play mostly pop, acoustic and rock music. TY.

The digi 002 has 4 preamps and 4 other inputs that don't have phantom power.Having two of these means 8Preamps 8 without phantom power. More pre= better. Especially for drums.

The pre-amp is very good and totally underrated. The rest of the functions are great IF you learn to use them sparingly. There is alot of headroom in this unit and it is very easy to go overboard with the EQ/Conp etc.

Use the pre only until you get a handle on how it behaves and shape the sound very carefully one thing at a time.

yup, what he said and stay away from vintage harmonics until you feel like you have mastered all other aspects of this strip, Tube warmth is kinds cool on some stuff, very UNcool on others. Lots of fun here tho.

I dont think the digi oo2 has focusrite preamps, its the m-box 1 that had them. But i might be wrong though.

The VM pro is great,i have one and love it.Its very warm if needs to be and can be sterrile if thats what u want.Overall you wont regret it :D

How do you get pro tools to recognize 2 interfaces. It's been pretty well known that using two interfaces is impossible with pro tools so I'm not seeing how having two is beneficial. I even asked the guys at sweetwater if I could buy 2 002r's and use the second for extra inputs, I got a flat out NO.

Just because the guy works at sweet water doesn't mean he knows what he's talking about. You can daisy chain the two. I have already done it. You can only mix on one digi , the other is just for more pre's.

well...you just said it yourself - you daisy-chained two units together, which then leaves them acting/being recognized as one...same thing as if you had a mackie control w/ the extenders

i think the guy was asking whether you can hook up 2 separate units, each working separately from the other

Digi 002's can be run in standalone mode. Pro Tools will only really see the one interface as usable, but the preamps from the second one can be used to feed the line inputs of the first (or primary) digi002. I beleive the sweetwater guy was referring to not being able to use two interfaces in LE as a way of expanding your inputs. So, in the end, I don't think anyone was really "wrong" here. Also, the Digi002 should also have Focusrite preamps in it. However, those preamps are more like the platinum line of preamps, and not at all like the much nicer Blue and Red series stuff.

Yeah I was refering to increasing the inputs. I sure as shit wouldn't spend 1200 bucks for 4 digi pre's, that'd be just bending over and taking one.

The digi 002 or 002R has a total of 18 inputs. Why would you need two units to get 8 inputs? I think you need to go back to math class. This is screwed up in more ways than one.

I hope you aren't directing that statement to me. My bathroom material is a sweetwater catalog and I sit at work all day 6 days a week doing almost nothing but surfing this site. I can see someone making the mistake though. When I was a noob I had really no clue. The amount of info I've consumed in 2 years is almost freakish.

This product is a love/hate thing for me.

I enjoy it, I think it's a great value, and for most people it's an awesome pre

for me, it sounded too sterile, I thought the effects were laughable, and in the end I went with a UA

considering that most of the folks here are doing this as a hobby, it's more than acceptable... it just didn't fit my needs :)

Some of the effects are amusing (vintage harmonics, tube warmth, I forgot the other one) The eq and comp are very usable and the pre is ok. It's nice to get an expander at this price too even if you only realize you want a better one
