Hello, I have the Audiophile soundcard, Sonar XL 2.2 and Wavelab 4.0, was wondering how the pros or anyone get that "vocal seperation" in their recordings? On radio recordings, etc. it almost sounds like the person is sitting in the middle of the speakers or dashboard of my car!? What software out there can do that or can the effects in Sonar or wavelab do that? Thanks for all the help! Peter ><>

The pan knob :D

There may be some kind of software out there that enhances the stereo field? Someone may know.

It's not about any single thing you do to the vocals it's about how you mix the entire song. A heavy amount of vocal compression is one trick to try if you haven't already.

...another is very carefully carving out key overlapping frequencies from other tracks to make some room around the vocals.

Yo, Skycries57...

Listen to TexRoadKill.
And my tips (if you haven't heard about it... :)) :

1. If you want to fatten up just the vocals, clone your original mono track (copy to one track), pan left and right and then slip (drag) one of the tracks a few milliseconds. This introduces a delay. Make sure the snap to graid icon bottom right is not engaged. A few milliseconds is all you need. Over 8 m.secs it becomes too much like a delay.

2.For "Chorus" effect, use the pitch shifter... Process --> Audio effects --> Cakewalk --> Pitch Shifter. Alter the pitch of the second track by just verrry little amount. Say -0.08. It won't causing the track out of tune, instead... you'll hear the vocals sounds HUGE and a little bit chorused....

Hope it helps.
