The recording is off a bit in cool edit like the vocal sounds like 1 or 2 milisecond sbehind the beat clap or ahead of it, can i adjust recording speed if so how?

We are being plagued with this problem, please immedient assistance requested and greatly appreciated!!

If it's *always* 1 or 2 ms behind the beat and that doesn't change, then it isn't a question of recording speed, it's a question of lagging induced by latency. And if it's latency you're dealing with, there isn't a lot you can do about it, cuz latency is a built-in feature of some soundcards and drivers - you just have to drag the lagging track back into position every time you want to use it.

In any event, the problem isn't Cool Edit - it just records what's sent to it. The problem's the soundcard I think.

Yeah, but there's a way to adjust for latency if you can calculate the exact amount of it...and there's a way to calculate the exact amount of it. I don't know how to do either of these things, but I know they are done, lol.

btw...2 milliseconds would be impossible to hear, right? I mean, if you're hearing it, I'd guess that it's closer to 30ms off, but I'm just guessing.

Upon further eval of this, its more like whats being playbacked is alot -slower- then how it was recorded.

What could cause this, some one mentioned a solution could be filewire.
Anyone heard of filewire, what it does, costs, and where to get it?

Thank you.,

it can't be slower...it can start later maybe, but I don't think it can be slower...I mean, there's no tape to stretch, lol. You mean it starts late, right?

No, its like it gets slower or somthing along those lines.
Because when you start out, your often on point, but as it goes, you fall further off the snare clap or what ever your spitting to, making it sound rather horrible.
I can save a session file and send it if that helps.
My friend on aol RCP mentioned how one of my songs other recordings were off, but he some how fixed them, so i guess that means the problem should be solvable in cool edit

Let me know, thanks.

OK, I've done some research on firewire (this is turning into more of a recording problem now I believe) and I understand what its suppose to do, but is it worth it, does anyone use it?

Also, I was wondering, would my firewall have anything to do with the recording issue? Could it slow down the line-in pickup?

Also is there a way possible to control the speed your microphone records at? (This could also be the problem)
Any help on these subjects would be greatly appreciated.

One way a recording can be slower than the accompanying playback, is if different soundcards are being used - one for playback and one for recording.
Unless you have a soundcard that uses different timing clocks for input and output - I don't know of any like that.
If you do have more than one card/interface, always monitor overdubs from the one you are recording into, unless there is a way to synchronise them with a digital audio/word clock connection.

One other thing, in CEP Device Settings and multitrack Device order, ensure you are not using WaveMapper - it's an indirect connection to the soundcard driver and may well lead to timing problems.

how can i discover if its using the wave mapper and or how can i disable it, and make it use my creative audigy soundblast card

In the Edit view (not the multitrack), go to "Options" and select "Device Order." You'll see several tabs there, 2 of which should be "Playback Device" and "Recording Device." Just make sure you've got your soundcard selected for both of these.

Thanks, and also, there is an option in wave properties like
Drift Control and Sync enabling or somthing like that, could either of these be the source of the problem?
